The theme could be forest and the entire season could take place at this one forest (or one special spot in the forest. Compare it to the Bad Romance video: all different shots but in the same room.) which holds all kinds of horrific happenings/stories that have happend there throughout the years (it has been confirmed that this season would take place in both present and past). Kind of like the saying 'if these tree's could talk...'. Maybe that's the reason why every teaser looks different as well, maybe every episode will tell a terrible story of a certain year (that's why some teasers look very old-fashioned and others look futuristic) and in the end each episode would somehow be connected to one another. Spoiler i'm pathetic Spoiler I somehow refuse to believe that 'each trailer looks different because they want to put us on the wrong track'-stuff. From the teasers they've released, I already can guess the most likely theme. It's quite obvious. In all seriousness I'm sure they do (especially considering they're already filming). it just seems an odd tactic to put so much energy into throwing fans off the true theme to build hype when it seems to be doing the opposite. I don't think that their intentions were to throw people off, but to hint about the season. AHS has previously expressed the manners of youth recreating famous horror stories, some even practice anti-christ-like beliefs. "There are many more trailers than you've actually seen for hypothetical seasons of American Horror Story — different genres, different places. To be honest, I feel like the FX CEO shouldn't have said anything at all. That said, that's only because I feel like, although one trailer may be the outright theme, they still all connect. I just don't like the idea that one is absolute, and the others are all false.
