it may be "fresh" but its "fresh" new generic trash

By the same logic, Edge of Glory is a generic 80s power ballad and Gotye's hit is a Sting or Police ripoff.

But in 2011-12 they are damn fresh (yes fresher than Carly's song but same principle applies).

Love You Like a Love Song was better than 90% of the **** on US pop radio last year, but they wouldn't play it for months (because she is "teen pop" and that isn't currently cool). Carly's song just couldn't be denied.

Are you a disney music stan, Craig? :sillyga:

Yup, 1980s and 2011 are definitely what we were talking about.

Taking it to extremes.

i actually think Edge of Glory was one of her most non-generic hits. Same with You and I.

You and I was definitely an interesting release for a pop star.

Idk the last time a pop girl released a country ballad, lol. (Unless you consider T Swift pop :troll:)

iTunes sure doesn't. She's listed as a pop artist.

There's nothing out right now which is fresh sounding which is partly why the charts are so dull

Especially Y&I

Y&I ended up being a really good choice in the US. It had lots of promo, some high level promo at that (VMAs/Weird video/GRAMMY noms/and some other shows) which helped show her versatility as an artist.

It also got a surprising amount of airplay on pop.

Didnt it go Top 10 there as well as on the Hot 100?

Itll be certified 2x platinum when Interscope updates her certifications later this year with the RIAA.

yea it went to #7 i believe on the pop charts (dont quote me though lol). Yeah i was worried at first but ended up being a great choice. Many people that usually dont care for her was like "that you and i song is really good. I was shocked when i found out it was lady gaga, i thought she only sang dance songs"

it gave her more respect as an artist.
