Born To Die is all about her words and the feeling in her voice imo

Alot of the album is very much (like she compared it to Thomas Newman's American Beauty score) like a soundtrack, and her vocals tell the story of her life. I love the production and everything as a whole, I got no problems with it personally :)

I like some of the production actually, but its like Marina and the Diamonds music...I feel like it doesn't lead anywhere. Like i'll like certain aspects of one of her songs, but then it doesn't take me somewhere I want to be, it goes somewhere less exciting. lol like I get what shes trying to do but I just think her music doesn't necessarily accomplish what it tries to accomplish? idk it was her first popular album so I give her the benefit of the doubt! I genuinely like her music as Lizzy Grant though, she kiiind of reminds me of a very young Chan Marshall. I heard shes re-releasing the album she made as lizzy grant right? i'm ready for that ****.

I feel like the album is so incredibly fresh and innovative though. The production on BTD is just so... epic and atmospheric sounding, yet it's an album that's incredibly down and depressing for the most part, however I could play it in the car, while I go to bed, at a party, and it's always just perfect for any type of mood.

Totally agree with this post. The album's production (like Lana said herself) is very similar to the American Beauty score. It's fresh sounding and very memorable, but the actual content of most of the songs is dark and sad. She's got the perfect balance between memorable-pop and meaningful-ballad (ballad-ish) on Born To Die, National Anthem etc. And yeah I can listen to the album ANYWHERE :')

Don't know if this has been mentioned before, but in TIWMUG Lana says "Pabst Blue Ribbon on Ice" - and she said that, when she was around 18 years old, playing bars and clubs, people asked her if she knew who David Lynch was, and she then went on to watch his movies and stuff. In Blue Velvet, the character Frank says "Heineken? **** that ****! Pabst Blue Ribbon!" - I don't know if she was referecning the movie or what, but I just noticed it :)

I'd recommend Blue Velvet and all Lynch's movies to anybody who likes the darkness in Lana's music (18+ tho ;)). Twin Peaks (the series and Fire Walk With Me movie) could have her music as the score tbh
