She's been talking about going darker and then release the PoM video.

I want Gaga to do another album like TFM! That album is just flawless! Every song on it could've been a single!

Tbh, I want Gaga to completely surprise me with her musical direction this album.

I'm glad y'all like the sound of it. Non-dance/pop Gaga isn't a very popular idea around here.

I just think she'd really slay with something like that. It's SO Gaga, but a different side. We saw how well people responded to TEOG. Tone down the synths on that and you basically have an 80s stadium rock/pop song, yet totally modern. She totally nailed it. It also perfectly compliments PianoGa, rather than jarring alongside dance/electro stuff.

Maybe she IS going for this direction? The Coldplay rumour would certainly tie into it, as would an Elton John collaboration. Zedd was part of a band too, apparently. Even RedOne claims he can do rock too. Fernando did give us TEOG, so it's not beyond his capabilities either I guess. Hmm.

If those rumors are true, it would awesome! If Gaga got at least close to what it was like for 80s rock/pop, it would make me very happy, especially tied in with the piano. I could see Gaga do this generation's version of Queen somehow.

An album full of Government Hookers/Judas's lol

Imagine if Gaga did a song like REM's Losing my Religion?

That'd be so weird.

I love how she's so flexible that her music is always unpredictable

I doubt her new persona can be any more fake/contrived than her current one as Katy Perry. Maybe she'll shoot herself in the foot with this. People look to Katy for brightly coloured basic pop relief, not deep - or even musically interesting - music. She's supposed to be the anthesis to Gaga. Well. Good luck with this one, Katheryn.

I swear at this rate with Nicki, Katy and Rihanna going off the deep end trying to compete with Gaga in the conceptual/artsy/dark/whatever stakes...if Gaga was to return with something different, she's going to make them all look so redundant.

Even though it's totally not happening judging by the Zedd/Fernando/RedOne/DJWS productions, I'm still up for her doing a 70s/80s stadium rock/metal/pop album. Minimal synths, massive choruses, guitars a'plenty, with leather jackets, big hair, bandanas, studs, band-tees etc. Basically have a bit more fun with it all. :legend:

I'm surprised that Capitol is green lighting this idea. I expected them to be all: "No, no, Katy, this type of music would go against everything that made you successful, you're not doing it." But maybe they're under the hopeless delusion that anything Katy releases will be a hit. Yes, she's unstoppable right now but only because she appeals to the general public's tastes. History has proved that the public does not like it when an artist does a complete 180 with absolutely no progession into their new style. And the negative reaction intensifies if the new style doesn't suit them.

I agree if she did switch up her game, all the current pop stars would be completely helpless and would have to rethink their future album plans. If like you said, she goes on to do a stadium rock album at one point, they won't be able to compete. Katy plays guitar but she plays it sedately, not in a rock fashion. Nicki and Rihanna don't even play instruments. And not one of them can make rock music. So, if Gaga released something like you described and it was a global hit, there would be such meltdowns in the pop industry. Romantic ballad-heavy Adele would be having palpitations. I'm sure Gaga will release something she hopes will be a game changer at some point. It's just a matter of when. She may want to hold out till her 30's, when she's had her fun being a 20 something mainstream pop act.

I don't think it's surprising at all.

All of the pop girls have been copying Lady Gaga since she broke out, always one step behind her.

The Edge of Glory is such a ****ing masterpiece I don't know if there'd be any point in her trying to go at that sound for a new album because they might not be able to re-create that kind of magic. It was completely on-point, they nailed it. Perfect blend with the 80s stadium-rock vibe yet it sounds so fresh and modern. One of her best songs.

It is kind of funny how you see them all desperately trying to chase her and follow in her footsteps every time, then she just moves onto something new. People try to deny it but her influence in pop music atm is undeniable, it's kind of hilarious how obvious the rest of the girls make it as well.

What would be the point of doing TFM 2.0? Or even doing BTW 2.0? We already have those albums.

I see what you mean. Out of everyone of her generation, she is the one I'd tip to be the biggest rockstar...yet she doesn't make rock music. There's just something about her that captures the energy of 70s/80s rock/popstars. Probably why so many of them love her. You can totally picture her jamming with Freddie Mercury, Blondie and the like.

Judging by who she listens to, who she idolises and what genres she tries to infuse BTW with...I just don't see how she WON'T go into rock/metal. It's just inevitable. I can far easier see her being an ageing rockstar, killing it on tour than a Madonna-esque 50 something year old popstar making dance music.

I think it's become progressively more obvious, especially in the latter half of 2011 and now in 2012.

Lady Gaga's are running all over the place.

She's signed to Interscope Records, notorious for their lack of flexibility in regards to demanding mega-radio hits from their biggest acts.

They've given her everything she wants so far, but that also means they have leverage to control what she does in the studio.

"You get all of these massive performances and tours, you'd better be making us hits and bringing in the public interest."

People keep overlooking Interscope's notorious habits of doing whatever it takes to make a superstar. I don't think Lady Gaga will go on forever without them stepping in and having a feud with her.

(They already did once with Alejandro)

I dunno, Gaga has made it pretty clear that her first love is pop music so I'm not sure she'll ever make the full transition into rock. However I'd bet she definitely isn't done with dabbling in it a bit more, and I hope that she isn't.
