Grandfather Executes His ISIS-Linked Grandson

I find it hilarious that I am being labelled as "soft" by so many here. I know most of the world is at war against extremists, and that, should an official war be declared against the "Islamic State", it would legally be a just war; I support the air strikes in IS-held territory, and the use of whatever force is necessary to gather intelligence from IS captives. Are any of the actions I support moral? No, but that doesn't stop me from supporting them.

I suspect much of the miscomprehension of my position is due to my very technical use of terms relating to "morality". According to Kant,  there are categorical imperatives by which one must comply. To kill another is, under his system, necessarily immoral, regardless of circumstance. Telling white lies, lying to save someone's life and killing in self defence are all, by his system, immoral. Alternatively, one might subscribe to utilitarianism and argue that killing one to save many is moral, but that's a system of ethics that has gone out of favour within academia for several decades now (whereas Kantianism and neo-Kantianism are experiencing a renaissance of sorts).

I think this discussion about morality--which, though fascinating, does not belong on a Gaga fan forum--has clouded the points I was trying to make in my original post. I was expressing disbelief that the fans of an artist whose career has been defined by spreading love appear to be cheering on blindly the death of a boy, and pointing out that this killing could be used as a recruiting tool by ISIL; I don't think either point is particularly controversial or worthy of debate, but should you wish to tell me how wrong I am, feel free to do so without resorting to ad hominem attacks :)

This is without a doubt the most disturbing thread I've ever seen on this site. I'm genuinely shocked at how callus and disgusting some of these posts are.

you can empathize with this ISIS sympathizer who savagely beat his mother all you want!!!

their district is under control of ISIS! this young MAN was already on ISIS' side! he savagely BEAT his mother! have you seen the videos of ISIS murdering groups of children, throwing gays off roofs, beheading countless individuals. Do you think 18 years old is too young to be an active participant? they have 5 year olds shooting people! don't believe me, there's video!!! this is not like ol' comfy america, where an 18 year old's only responsibility is to go to school! this is the middle of an ISIS occupied territory, and an able-bodied of age man just SEVERELY INJURED HIS MOTHER for disrespecting ISIS in an ISIS OCCUPIED TERRITORY. what would have happened if this young man had informed ISIS of their disrespect? what would have happened if the young man had returned and killed his mother, killed his own family? an honor killing? sure it's a sad situation for everyone involved, but the family FLED the town WITH the grandfather. the entire family left WITH the grandfather, they KNEW that their son in all likelihood was going to kill them. this was not an innocent little boy. QUITE THE OPPOSITE. and i say GOOD RIDDANCE!

It's unfortunate for any family to have to go through something like this. I can't imagine how the grandfather must feel. He may have potentially done a good thing, but he certainly can't feel good about this.

Was he shot right immediately after hurting his mom? I guess I don't know the whole story. It could've been smart to turn him in to authorities to get information about ISIS, but I don't how things are run over there either.

their entire town is already under ISIS control

"The District of Sharqat, located in the north of Salahuddin province, has been occupied by ISIS since 2014 and is regarded as one of the key bases of this Takfiri [extremist] terrorist group."

this happened right in the middle of the District of Sharqat. they couldn't turn him over to authorities because the authorities were ISIS.

When someone dehumanize these men by calling them "animals," talks about "pissing on their bloated corpses," and wishing they would be "SHOT AGAIN" they are exposing how much they actually have in common with ISIS fighters. Look at the way you are speaking in this thread. All caps, yelling, foaming at the mouth, appealing to your base desire for revenge and violent justice. It's disturbing.

It's not about sympathizing with ISIS.

It's about not celebrating death. It's about holding the moral high ground by displaying compassion and respect for life at a time when it is difficult to do so. It's about over riding that violent little voice in our brains left over from our Chimpanzee ancestors.

Spread compassion, like butter.

I don't know of a single country in which assault or battery is a capital offence. I'm not defending his actions or his character, just pointing out that one shouldn't be so quick to praise the grandfather.

ISIS is hated (for good reasons). But its clearly affecting peoples judgements

It still doesnt justify throwing out justice standards out the window

the right call would be to call the autorities and let them handle it. Then his punishment would fit accordingly

Sure our justice system isnt perfect. But if we got bqck to the attittude that individuals should punish others and its driven by emotion, our justice becomes even more imperfect! Lets not go back to that :wtf:

The authorities is ISIS.......:neyde:

if the grandfather called the authorities, all the family would be dead and the grandson would become the hero of the day.. it was a self defense, the grandfather saved his family and many other lives.

They live in a war, it's live or die, it's not the American sweet dream..

Maybe some of you needs to see in their eyes to finally understand what's going on there and that the justice and morality and all the western world humanitarian laws are burnt to ashes there.. it's gone, it's a ****ing hell.

And last thing: psychotic murderers, rapists, pedophiles, masochists, gays murderers and the list of horrifying things can go on and on - those are not humans and shouldn't even be treated like humans.

You can't talk with them, you can't put them in jail and make them good people, it's over, they lost humanity.

Life is not a Batman comics...

So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy
