Was Gaga acting during the Dope performance at the YouTube Music Awards?

She clearly wasn't. And it's pretty f*cked up and disrespectful to claim that she was just acting it or being fake. But if you're only here to constantly hate on her and criticize her for whatever reason..then I understand some of the ridiculous comments in this thread.

That's just Gaga. She's an emotional person and cries a lot. I know people like this in real life and they are just this way. Many of them are in the arts in some way and they have channeled their emotions towards the artistic outlet they have chosen.

I don't know but that's the only time I've watched that performance, it depressed me and I think the entire audience got depressed as well. I like Dope but I have to be in the mood for it, it just sounds like a really painful song and the way Gaga sings it.. turns me off.

You can't blame people for wondering if she was acting. This is the same woman who claims "I am theater" and "I'd rather take a giant dose of bullsh!t over the truth any day", and "my past is an unfinished painting... and as the artist of that painting... I have to make it beautiful again." I honestly can't believe that for a woman who claims her life is a performance art piece, you can't see the plausibility of her acting it up for this performance. I'm not calling her a fake. I fully believe her emotions came from a real place, but I also feel like the performance is 'dramatised' for the purpose of her art (similar to method acting).

Gaga is a master of performance art and is in control of everything that happens on stage. Now that I've thought about it, I don't believe for one second that this mess of a performance was a genuine public breakdown. She knows exactly what she's doing IMO. And that's not a criticism, that's a compliment.

She was clearly broken that night. I mean look at this performance and look at the David Letterman one. Maybe it looked kind of over dramatic but she was left by someone who was always there for her. Imagine the whole world turning it's back against you, she felt crushed and unwanted. You guys need to realize that she's a human being , she has feelings just like you. You should be thankful for Tony Bennett.

when she cries and mumbles like that in a performance its very fake. You can tell when gaga is genuinely passionate and moved when performing, the dope performances ive seen (which are only 2 maybe 3 since I dislike the song) are all so contrived. the tears and that crying voice she puts on are so disingenuous.
