Due to technicalities Kim would be considered an "observer" to the conversation and her recordings would be considered her simply "overhearing" the conversation, which wouldn't be illegal. This is also supported by the fact that Taylor knew she was on speaker phone as other people in the room commented on the conversation other than Kanye.

I kinda feel for Taylor in this specific instance but the law isn't really on her side I don't think..

Taylor taking them to court is pointless. She can't sue them or get them into a lawsuit considering that the phone call wasn't really 'private' since others were listening in like TMZ said. Also, isn't Kim considered an 'observer'?

Taking credit for my success and career while labelling me a bitch though would take it too far. It's hard to get respect as a female musician. Gaga has talked about similar issues and how the music industry is a 'boys club' and people would doubt that she was actually a songwriter and doubt how much control she had over her image. That to me would just feel like a further attack on my credibility, an attack that implied I wouldn't have had a career if it wasn't for Kanye interrupting me. The incident was actually at the VMA awards btw, for best video which she beat Single Ladies for.

That's not me taking Taylor's side btw, I'd take Kanye's music over Taylor's anyday. I consider that man a genius. I also think that the video evidence against her is pretty damning at this point. She acknowledged the "I made this bitch famous" line and said the sex line seemed more provocative. She shouldn't have lied. It's embarrassing for her at this point. I don't blame her for taking issue with that line, she should have just been upfront about it.  

She shouldn't have acted like it was all fine and that she loved it. She shouldn't have told him she would joke about it at The Grammy awards like "Jokes on you! He called me and I thought it was cool!" and then blindsided him by acting like she had never heard the line and was super offended.

But she DID have a career. She knows she did. She won the award ffs. It is insecurity if you can't just accept that there was a whole lot of people who didn't listen to teen country pop who didn't know who Taylor swift was until the moment with Kanye went viral.

I'm not sure what that has to do with what I wrote  I also don't know if your point is "She did have a career" or "There was a whole lot of people who didn't know who Taylor Swift was until the moment with Kanye".

The point isn't whether Taylor had a career or didn't before Kanye interrupted, the point is that Kanye literally takes credit for her mega success and fame saying "I made that bitch famous"  That's an attack on her credibility, he is taking credit for the fact that she has a career. Taylor didn't become famous because she is talented in her own right, it's not that she is great at writing pop songs or performing or making slick music videos, Kanye made her famous. It doesn't even matter whether that line is true or not... It's quite clearly an attack on her credibility and I could understand her being upset at the line.

It isn't about being insecure, it's about standing up as a woman in an industry that doesn't always give the same props to female performers or songwriters and often tries to dismiss or downplay their talent.  I can't fault her if she didn't feel comfortable with being labelled a bitch and having Kanye take credit for her fame.

I'm sorry but unless he said he taught her guitar and got her a record deal he isn't taking credit for her career. He is saying that she wasn't viral famous before that moment and that she played the victim enough to be able to turn that one moment that could have happened to whoever won over Beyoncé into mainstream success. Lots of adults don't listen to Taylor swift style music. Lots of people into rock and hip hop hadn't heard of her. However suddenly her name is all over the news. It made her more famous Taylor even said so herself...

Kanye is literally saying he made Taylor (also known as 'that bitch') famous. He is absolutely taking credit for her fame and success.

If you think that he is saying "that she wasn't viral famous before that moment and that she played the victim enough to be able to turn that one moment that could have happened to whoever won over Beyoncé into mainstream success." (I personally don't think that at all) Then surely that makes it even more understandable why Taylor wouldn't like that line and how it has nothing to do with insecurity on her part? If Kanye is saying that Taylor played the victim enough to turn that one moment into mainstream success don't you think Taylor might have an understandable reason to dislike the line?

Ask anyone other than teeny boppers and they'll tell you all they know of swift is her feud with Kanye. Her songwriting had made her well known amongst fans of her genre not mainstream. It's not an insult at all it's just a fact. She even said it herself in the video that she had sold millions but yes there were people who didn't know who she was. Also I didn't say Kanye said she played the victim enough to catapult that into success that was my comment. If she truly wants out of this Kanye feud narrative then she could stop using him as some major obstacle that she's had to overcome in all her speeches. He did something stupid when you won an award he didn't give you cancer. You can't deny she has played off that moment for years

You know that I have been on Kanye's side for the majority of this thread right? Like as soon as the video came out where she seemed to acknowledge the "I made this bitch famous" line I said it was damning evidence against her...

The only point I am making in this discussion with you is that my problem with Taylor isn't her having issue with that line... If she had just said that to Kanye then that's cool. My problem is that she acted like the line was cool and then changed her mind.

I just don't have a problem with Taylor disliking the line "I made that bitch famous" and refusing to co-sign it. I would find that line demeaning and I would find it to be an attack on my credibility if I was in her position

I'm not a Taylor Swift fan or a "teeny bopper" and I can name multiple Taylor Swift songs  But once again that's not really relevant to the point I am making... She had a career, she was nominated and won the VMA award, I knew who she was before hand for what it's worth. Whether or not she was as wildly popular as she became or whether she was well known in other genres is kinda irrelevant.

I'm sure, that from Taylor's perspective, as somebody who was selling out arenas, who had a couple of top 5 singles under her belt and a #1 album (which sold half a mill in its first week) she was already doing pretty well... I'm sure from her perspective she attributes her fame with her hard work and her songwriting  At the very least, even if you are going to attribute her continued success to Kanye, you could argue that it was Taylor's talents that lead her to have such early success and allowed her enough fame to be nominated for a VMA and win for video of the year.

From Taylor's perspective, I can see why she might find Kanye's proclamation of "I made that bitch famous" a little demeaning. Firstly she is referred to as simply 'that bitch" and the line implies that Kanye is responsible for her fame, which I'm sure Taylor attributes to her hard work and talents.
