It's not like she is maturing with her sound overall, she has always had tracks like this in her records but they don't get released. This one is actually boring compared to some hidden gems she has! This T. I need all of her pre One Of The Boys needs to leak tbh. That Katy slays this one effortlessly. The more I listen, the more I like it. Easily her her best or second best "lead" single. Part Of Me will forever be the worst lead ever. Poor Wide Awake, it should have gotten number one and not that mess. Katy's vocals shine over a lighter instrumental during the opening verses of the song. The tension builds and builds throughout the first minute of the song as it feels like the song is about to explode into an epic chorus. The first minute of the song is great,bombastic and empowering, and after a minute when it feels as if the inevitable chorus is going to kick in, the song goes stale, with a less than impressive period of whining over a subdued dull beat with a rattling noise, the supposed climax of the song is non existent and is utterly deflating, thankfully the verses arrive again and make the song interesting and big sounding once more only to be then let down by a second round of the dull chorus. So to sum up Rise by Katy Perry is a song with a big build up but fails terribly in the chorus department. I wanted to like it but its just lacking a gaga-esque hook. Share your views and please dont hate on me for pointing out my negatives of the song because I'm not against Katy in any way I'm a neutral and I love some of her songs. Discuss...
