I wouldn't have publicized my break up mess on Twitter in that way and the majority of people I know wouldn't choose to do something like that either. Most people I know think it's juvenile to whine about break ups on Twitter. Hey, but you do you when you are involved in relationships and break ups. Believe me, we know by now...and know all those "good reasons". Oh, I see...well, I'm a fan of hundreds and hundreds of artists then! I wasn't talking about publicising it on twitter, I was talking about not allowing someone to record music you made for them if they betrayed you. If I put effort into a project for the one I loved and then they betrayed me, I'd want my work that I put my heart into away from them. It's only natural. Yeah, your opinion on if they're good reasons or not. Like you said yourself, you do you and I'll do me. Yeah, there's nothing wrong with being a fan of hundreds and thousands of artists. You like your specific definitions of terms, don't you? Relax a bit and don't take every word so seriously. 23 minutes ago, ItsTommyBitch said: It was both of their music, they made it together, he just technically owned it. Also, I'm not bitter enough to sabotage a future partner's career just because it didn't work out. It's petty as **** and I have no respect for it, not sorry about it. I'd probably just relinquish my involvement with the project and want nothing to do with it; but she still was part of the process of making it, so I would let her use at least some of it if I really felt I didn't want my work going out there; she got squat last I checked even though its not like he did 100% of the work. It's not easy to break into music at all, just being able to sing is often not enough, it takes a lot of luck and networking and years and years of time usually, just to get a record label to maybe give you the time of day. Whether you personally believe they are talented enough to deserve it isn't actually important at all; its the person who signs them and their fans whose opinions really matter. "Doesn't write or produce, just a singer who sings work given to her" applies to way more people than you would think, so if this the backbone of your argument at least be consistent in criticizing all people who are "only" singers... (Not to mention you aren't giving singing itself the credit it deserves; Singing well is hard. Not all people can sing, not all people are naturally gifted or can afford to learn to sing professionally with a teacher, etc.) I don't think anything about her actions shows that she feels "entitled to success" at all either She obviously moved on and kept working, but he set back her professional career for months or even longer out of spite even though he had nothing to gain from it but to know that it was hurting her. No, he wrote it all for her. When Calvin writes for other artists, most of the time, he does all the writing, which is how a lot of DJs work. And Rita is not a songwriter, so he totally did it all for her. Of course it's not easy to break into music but you have to have something really good to give to deserve a spot. Rita can actually sing not as badly as I thought but the whole package simply isn't cutting it. I appreciate her spirit (she was dropped from 2 labels before being signed to Roc Nation and she's been dropped from that now and is on her fourth label). You have to admire that resilience. I just wish she was fighting for something that she was actually good at. I do criticise all people who only sing, actually. I think you need something more than that to make it now. And I sing myself, I know how hard it is, but I think that songwriting is another skill that a singer should want to master, especially now. It makes your career so much easier. I only want to see real talent in the charts, not just people who want to be famous for the sake of being famous. Well, just sitting back while other people write her songs and shamelessly promoting herself for no reason at all pretty much seems like entitlement to me. She doesn't feel like she needs to work hard, that just by hanging around, she's automatically famous. I don't think it was just spite from Calvin. Pride is an ok emotion to have sometimes. Some people need more of it.

Some people need more of it. I didn't say she wrote any of it. Music is a combination of different people with different talents coming together. I have equal respect for singers who "only" sing and producers and writers who do those things, but can't sing or don't sing. I also have respect for artists who sing but are not technically proficient or professional singers with no training. Some of the best artists in the world aren't even "great" singers from a technical standpoint; some of the best singers don't write a word of their music, but they sing it better than artists that write it all down from their minds with no help at all. I appreciate the nuance of it. Let's agree to disagree. I don't even like Rita Ora; her voice or any music she has released, and she seems like a not to pleasant person to be around, but you seem to be singling her out for doing what tons and tons of other artists do all of the time; its standard practice in the industry. You may think what she does isn't enough, but she isn't doing especially less than her peers or anything, so I don't understand the point of singling her out for doing something totally expected of her. Some people aren't good song writers, not for lack of trying. From what I could find, she did minimal writing on her debut album, so yeah she has tried. You went off on some tangent that had nothing to do with my OP. Yep, my opinion...just like you have your opinion. You quoted me, not the other way around. I made a short, two sentence statement and you just couldn't stand to let it go without pushing your opinion again. Like I stated before, we all get it. Relax a bit, let people have a short opinion. I'm equally harsh on any artist who just sings and doesn't have much control of their music other than that. I'm only singling her out because the topic turned to her. But yeah, we just can agree to disagree. 12 hours ago, Whispering said: That's what I was talking about with my first comment. You went off on some tangent that had nothing to do with my OP. I was referring to the Rita bit of what you said, so it wasn't off on a tangent. I wasn't so much pushing my opinion, just wanting clarification from you as to how you'd treat others who did the same thing. We sometimes don't realise that we have double standards. I've seen too many Taylor fans excuse her for stuff that they don't let other artists get away with and always make her out to be the victim, so I just wondered. I am relaxed, I just wanted to see if you put the same standard on all artists. The downside about having a short opinion is that it isn't always clear and needs extra clarifying.
