The first comment should be directed to minority conservatives  The privileged tend to not fight for their rights because they don't fully understand the necessity of them as well as the underprivileged who struggle to hold on to them every day, which is sad  

As for the second, I don't agree at all really. It's nice on paper, not in practice. The public as we know it would fit under what he says is "not enlightened enough to exercise their control with a wholesome direction"

When we leave "rights" to the people they tend to legalize racism, sexism, discrimination in general against the minority. In my mind, no just government would allow this as it exists to protect and serve ALL people, not just the majority. I'm obviously a democrat (but a far left radical tbh  ) I think the approach of "well, if the people are bigots try to educate them!" is naive. That's whats happening right now in our society (social justice advocacy, national conversations about social issues, trying to open minds and hearts) yet governments still try to legislate anti-lgbt, anti-woman, anti-PoC bills literally all the time. "Education" tends not to have as much power when it comes from a minority against a highly resistant majority. If it were that easy that we could just "let the people do as they wish!" and then correct them slowly over time (probably decades +)  to the point that they themselves realize the errors of their ways, we are doing the millions of people who have to live under oppressive structures "in the meantime" a great disservice as a society. Gradual change can be good and healthy, but its not always necessary and it does not have to be as gradual as some would like when it is in action. Social standards can change VERY quickly; look at support for Gay marriage over the last few decades and how exponentially it has grown in this decade alone. Ironically, this was "left up to the people (the states) and over time it became law anyway, so the "leave the power to the people!" crowd now is just backtracking now that it IS the will of the people. "Leave it to the states/the people" ends up being code for "I don't want change at all!"  We could also look at Roe v. Wade and abortion. Abortion wasn't like, 60% favored by the country or even 50% if I remember correctly, but the SC ruled it to be so because it was the right thing to do and here we are today, with more people approving of Abortion but in the meantime millions and millions of women have been able to have safe, responsible abortions. Lives were saved, livelihoods were saved. I think the idea that "we MUST have a natural progression into change otherwise people will resist it!" is naive. If abortion had only JUST been made legal this year, or in the coming years people would still resist it. It's never going to be 100% accepted. When is it okay? At 60%? 50%? 75? It's arbitrary.

Conservatism tends to breed this kind of steadfast resistance to social change that questions traditional family values and morals. Change will happen regardless and people can get on the right side in time if they want to or not and be left behind in the dirt how I see it.

There's also actually not much reason to believe that those in power would in essence give up their power just because those not in power are making an appeal to them or even a higher power (like god, religiosity, morality, etc.) -- Afterall, the American Revolution happened because appeals to the British did NOT work. MLK Jr., who people often like to think of as an example of "black people fighting for things the RIGHT way," even acknowledges that oppressed voices often fall on deaf ears unless they MAKE their voices heard, and he sees no problem with it. He acknowledge the necessity of MANY different types of protest; not all needed to be peaceful and the Civil Rights movement was not won (debatable) by peaceful protest alone, that is a lie. The American Government even assassinated MLK when the war came and they felt he was too powerful at uniting people for a cause

In summary, I find the idea to be flawed even if it sounds good on paper. The people in this case are NOT well informed enough to be trusted with their own government and until that becomes reality (which may be a long time) I'm all for government protecting the little guy against the ignorance of the big guy.

i was a little bit disappointed to learn that there were approximately 100 emails that were classified at the time (when she said there weren't any) but other than that maybe this issue will finally die (it's unlikely tho).

It was Illegal, It was Negligent, and it was reckless. You can be happy theres no indictment and you can perhaps say there was no malicious intent (Although I don't believe it) you can not logically say it was not Negligent or against the law.

She was still careless and lied about not having classified information. Since she has proved to be so careless and has no idea how to handle classified information I don't see her fit for the job.
