In response to the sentiment that those in power didn't believe gay lives mattered they protested in the streets, they printed very graphic posters, they hijacked events rushing to the podium to shout about the AIDS crisis. They acted in the very same way as BLM protesters for a very similar reason, to make it clear that their lives mattered and to continue to put pressure at people on EVERY level (even those that publicly said they supported the gay community). They even crashed AIDS conferences (who you would assume, were far more progressive on the issue than the norm) and protested because they were not doing enough.

I get the BLM protestors here might be shocking for some, and it's clearly uncomfortable for some but clearly Toronto Pride don't feel the same way and good for them

They are just asking for better representation in leadership roles (and other roles) of Black trans women, black queer people and indigenous folk. I don't think it's a bad thing that these QUEER black activists are demanding more visibility and tolerance within the LGBTQ community.

Thank you for taking the time to nicely show how I was wrong with this informative post. And like I said, I agree with their call for more representation. Surprised its even an issue in a location like Canada. I just didn't particularly care for their demands that Toronto Pride ban the police force from participating for the rest of eternity. Hopefully that is something that can be perhaps clarified and/or repealed for future events because that truly doesn't sit well for me.

They have no right or reason to exclude police from Toronto's pride, specially LGBTQ police. 

They were allowed to be part of the parade, it's not like they were excluded. Also even though there have been cases where police have been unfair towards LGBTQ people or black people in Toronto it's not common at all. There's no reason why they would want their police out of Pride parade, specially if the police are part of the community.

It's ok to voice your concerns during Pride but it's not ok and it will never be ok to exclude any LGBT person who is supportive of the movement. This is not the 80's, even though there are still serious problems needed to be solved most people have equal rights in Canada if not all. The LGBTQ community did do extreme antics to voice their concerns back in the day but it was a completely different scenario.

Great job! Black Lives Matter Toronto a lot of gay prides here and in America need to showcase more black people in minorities in their parades. In fact, my city has two parades the Black Gay Parade well as a Gay Pride and there's a reason for it. I am glad to see they were able to make moves for the BLM and LGBT+. Two communities I am proudly apart of.

That doesn't make this anti semitic, not only Jews died in WWII the rest doesn't count either? Maybe the comparison is of bad taste to you but put this back in the context of the time. Activism can't always be nice if it wants to pass a strong message.

Like !!!!!!!!!!!  It's that simple !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  There is nothing to misunderstand !!!!!! I'm not black; I'm latino, and even then their wants are plain and simple to me.  If I can understand it easily, the rest of you can to, but people aren't letting themselves understand it because people on this site immediately jump to the worst conclusions and start being lowkey aggressive when threads like this pop up (not pointing that to you specifically, but there's many people on this site that do that).  The face of gay people / gay rights in this country is incredibly white, and there's a lot of homophobia in the black community.  Gay black people need more space in things like pride, and the organizers agreed with this and gave them the space they needed.

The only bad thing that happened concerning BLM recently is when that girl got up to speak at the Pulse vigil and started talking **** about the white people not coming to their BLM meetings but coming to a gay meeting instead; she was completely out of line especially considering why everyone was there.  However, the other couple of "incidents" posted on these forums have been completely harmless yet people got so worked up over nothing.

The holocaust specifically is about Jews. Nobody said other people died but the holocaust is a specific term for the genicide of Jews. 

Sure it's bad taste cause it made a hole in my family tree. And they need to accept that descendants of people who died there are uncomfortable with it. If they say: 'it's ok cause we say so' they speak out of their privilege

I think they used this comparison because they know people react strongly to the holocaust and it doesn't mean they disrespect Jews. many people have a hole in their family tree due to different genocide and war but this one is really special in history and so people remember it, it was a way to draw attention and shows that by not caring about aids they were doing the same toward gays. Unfortunately the fact that people are "uncomfortable" can't justify censorship, they didn't spread any sort of hatred. There are tons of sexist ad around that makes me uncomfortable and angry but I can't call out people on that and maybe that's even worse because they don't even see the misoginy in it. Also as I said remember the time, it was the 80's so you can't hold them to today standards.
