actually, that's not true. the intention behind her work, whether explicit/implicit or explained/unexplained, is always there. she said this repeatedly, especially when accused of attention-whoring.

But should we rule out that there are also things done for the intention of entertainment in Gaga's work? I know that her work, in the great scheme of things, has always an intention (no wonder she has been rewarded as someone who promotes art education). But do we have to nitpick on everything and every detail to find an intention? people in this thread have said that Cohen and the Housewives in the GUY video was "a clear irony on celebrities on videos" or that the product placement in Telephone had a point that we are missing. Dont you think its a little bit too far? She is admittedly an avid fan of Real Housewives and she needed funds for the movie-like Telephone.

Plus, Fergie has said that there is an intention behind the video: that she changed MILF to "Moms i'd like to follow" because she wants women after motherhood to be empowered and to know that they can still be successful and sexy afterwards. Does that point translate through the screen when you put Kim K taking a shower of milk? That's debatable. As many of Gaga's efforts have had a debatable translation to the public's perception

I'm not trying to drag Gaga or the people that take her seriously (I do, btw). Just pointing out that she, as Fergie in this situation, can be light and fun sometimes

the two are not mutually exclusive: having a message/an intention and being entertaining/fun, that is. if anything, they coexist in perfect harmony in the gagz universe.

if you take her seriously, then you alway try to find the message behind her work. that's my understanding of taking an artist seriously.

well, that's their reading. gagz said in an interview that her intention was not to add an element of irony to those scenes; rather, she was trying to recreate the surreal way in which she sees pop and celebrity culture.

i don't recall gaga's explanation behind the video right now, but i know that she did explain her intention. so no, i don't think so.

well, that's one way of looking at it; however, as gagz fans, we should all know by now that her artistic world is way more complex and complicated than that.

i don't follow fergie, but that's a nice message.

she addressed this several times before: she's the artist and the public is the public, precisely because they don't know everything—and they don't have to. what they have to have is their own reading/interpretation of the song/video. if they think that the product placements or the housewives are simply marketing stunts, then that's fine. their interpretation is just as valid as mine or yours. what's not cool is if they write down every other possibility as invalid or too artsy or whatever. that's just a testament to their own inability to appreciate something that was created for them—for their own entertainment.

OT, but weren't half the product placements in Telephone a joke? Specifically the Wonder Bread, Miracle Whip, and PlentyOfFish.

That said, has she used any product placements since Telephone? I haven't noticed any (DWUW almost, I guess).

Gaga didn't even like the finished result of that mv, which is why she didn't release it.  So this doesn't count :green:

None of Gaga's music videos are as shallow & superficial as Fergie's new one. There is always some kind of artistic element to a Gaga video, despite the occasional advertising & the many sexual images. No offense but your post is kind of dumb.

Yeah, I don't understand the purpose of this thread. Gaga wore a more revealing lace bra and thong on the Tom Ford ad than anything Fergie showed in her video. Those shorts Fergie has on covered more of her ass.

I like it. The song at least sounds to me like she's saying that even after having children, her and her female friends still feel like sexy women. The video is visually pleasing. I was living seeing Fergie in all those wigs!

I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.
