All I'm saying is that every election year, we get presented with two people who can become president, because a third party candidate hasn't won since Abraham Lincoln. We shouldn't have to choose between two people, and it's more clear than ever now with two candidates that tons of Americans dislike that we need other major political parties. We're not going to create a better democracy until we get rid of these archaic systems that while technically democratic are inherently undemocratic. 

That would undermine the votes from smaller states and the minority vote. The electoral college means that all regions of the country are represented in selecting the President.

You don't have to choose between two people. There are other parties and with social media and a never ending supply of news sources available at your fingertips, the third party candidates are known now more than they ever have been in history. 

The collective opinion of the individual State populations is more evenly representative of the country than the opinion of the national population taken as a whole. There is a careful balance of power between the national and State governments which the Founding Fathers intended and which is reflected in the Electoral college. To get rid of the electoral college would fundamentally alter the nature of our government and might well bring about consequences that even the reformers would come to regret.

That's an overall pessimistic way to view things and I believe largely incorrect. Yes, there are idiotic people who can hijack the system in an adverse way, but I like to believe they are in the minority. You said that myself and others attack the system when our candidate loses; is that not what you did with your point about the Brexit? It's subjective to say that the people of Britain exercising self-determination is either good or bad for them. Is the U.K. going to sink into the Atlantic as a result of the Brexit? Their economy may dwindle and their status in the world likewise, but eventually their finances will stabilize and life will go on as it has for the past few thousand years. Again, the population that believes refugees are going to murder them is reportedly much smaller than those who have purely nationalist sentiment for the U.K. 

I'm not saying we shouldn't have political parties. They're going to come about, like you said, no matter what happens. I'm just advocating for more of them because two VIABLE choices is too little. Whispering said about that third parties are more known than ever before, which is a bit of an over-exaggeration because they're still almost entirely shunned by the mainstream media and I would venture to say a great majority of Americans don't have a clue they exist (which perhaps goes against my point that people can usually decide what's best for themselves). 

The problem is that the Electoral College was designed for a different society. People don't need other people deciding things for them anymore. The Electoral College decided George W. Bush was better for us than Al Gore. That turned out wonderfully, right? We are less individual states at this point than one country, and so elections that are boxed into states doesn't make sense to me. Either we are a union of autonomous states, or we are something more like departments. To be completely honest, I DON'T think a state like Wyoming should have more sway in a national election than California, and the Electoral College has it established that the most populated states LOSE delegates to give to smaller states like Wyoming, Maine, Rhode Island, etc.

With better education, I like to believe our society will improve. Democracy can work, there doesn't need to be this fatalist idea that all people are stupid and we need our decisions made by the elite at the top. The point of having a representative republic is that elected officials do the work for us, but they don't need to the electing part as well. We need greater variety in political party and true direct elections. 

I would like to point out that Hillary Clinton is leading BY FAR in the popular vote against Donald Trump, and the only reason we could possibly get a Donald Trump presidency is BECAUSE of the electoral college – I see no way he can beat her in the popular vote.
