SlaeUrAnus 15,976
A sell out crowd of approximately 52,000 people, Queen Bey dominated the stage and showcased why she is a rare gem in the music industry. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I was up right at the top, literally, with a huge speaker tower thingy blocking my view. My partner bought the tickets just a day after they were on sale so I guess those with the prestigious seats/standing were first come first served. Anyway, okay, she was 45 minutes 'late' at the beginning, but it was probably due to the amount of people still hoarding in through the entrances past the start time. The show started at 8:45pm with a huge rupture. Formation was the introduction and Bey was backed up by dancers shouting to the crowd "If you’re proud of who you are and where you’re from, say: ‘I slay’!” Of course, I joined in. When Beyonce tells ya'll to get in Formation, ya'll do it! She then progressed to sing 'Sorry' with everyone shouting "he better call Becky with the good hair" when the lyric approached. However, it was 'Run The World' which brought out her incredible dancing, showcasing that she has the voice, dancing and sexiness even in the pouring down rain in Sunderland (nothing new), but she was backed up by sparks, bright lights and flame shooters as part of her set. The intro for Running played on the huge screen on the set, causing an eruption of fans who yelped and I seen a female fan next to me crying. As Queen sat on her throne, faux lightning and sirens pierced through the stadium with 'Ring the Alarm'. With her hot pants and crop top, she was looking sexier and more demanding than ever. After slaying old classic Baby Boy and Hold Up (which sent the crowd into a frenzy), she ran off stage shortly after (to refresh probably) and was temporary displaced by a electric guitarist, and I immediately knew what was next, yes, Don't Hurt Yourself (my favourite song from Lemonade). The Jack White influence is one of the key reasons why I love this song along with her fierce attitude and lyric: "As I bounce to the next **** boy!" After DHY, "question"... Yes, Independant Woman, however, a remixed version that only lasted a good 15 seconds. But, that was still worth it. Afterwards, Love On Top immediately played and she slayed it. But it weren't just Bey, it was the crowd. Bey gave the crowd the chance to sing along and we sang the chorus over and over again which prompted Bey to shout "alright, give yourselves a round of applause!" Here is the video for the song, it was incredible! She progressed to slay the stage with new material Daddy Issues, 6 Inch, Love Drought and Freedom (ironic considering Sunderland heavily voted for Brexit) displaying a huge close up of her relationship with Jay Z and her daughter Blue Ivy. However, a small minority of her fans of her, lets say, less political days weren't disappointed. The stadium was in complete darkness and... BOOM. Trumpets playing, lights heavily flashing, yes, Crazy In Love, in a red PVC leotard and boots. After researching her Formation Tour in North America, I was expecting the 2014 FSOG remix to start first, but she jumped straight into the original. This prompted me and the female fans next to me to immediately stand and dance. After a 30 second snippet, she broke out into Bootylicious and her ass shaking skills are amazing. Seriously, is there anything this girl CANNOT do? This was followed up by Naughty Girl (my other jam from Dangerously in Love). As a tribute, she included Purple Rain as a tribute to the late singer, Prince. I looked over to the young fans who looked perplexed as if to say "what is this song?". 5 minutes passed and the instantly recognisable intro for Drunk in Love rang out the stadium causing screams. She reappeared from behind the set and began singing, leaving space for the crowd to sing the chorus (awkward enough, 50% of the stadium were out of sync ) It was then nearly the end of the show with Beyonce on the stage by herself telling everyone to give it up for her backup dancers, band, backup singers, and even ourselves. The heavenly piano start of Halo was silently ringing out and I immediately knew what was next, but not many else did. Then the official introduction started and the screams were deafening. I was ecstatic, this is my all time favourite Beyonce song. The slowed down, stripped back version was just beautiful, again, us fans got to sing along too. She gave a goodbye speech to the stadium about how inspiration we are to her, it seemed so genuine. This was my first time seeing Beyonce, but would I see her again? Definitely! I would even pay £120 just for a single standing ticket near the stage. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Sorry, this was my first review of a concert ever, so sorry if it sounded more of a walkthrough In my messy era. I was a fan, not a stan of Beyonce, but after that performance, my adoration for her sky rocketed. The videos did not do it justice, her voice is incredible in person. In my messy era. Harry 26,836
Glad you had a great time and thanks for posting a review! I'm seeing her at Wembley on Saturday and I'm even more excited after seeing what a great time you had I just wish she'd do Love On Top in full, not acapella. That's one of my fav songs by her! One question - where you were sitting, were people standing up and dancing? Cos I'm seated too but I want to dance for most of the time but it's such a buzzkill if the rest of the block is generally dead lol 29 minutes ago, Haroon said: LOL THIS GETS ME EVERYTIME I've accidentally said it before too Great review by the way and super glad that you had such an amazing time!
