He and his Kardashians will do anything to make people talk, this is nothing.

The future's uncertain and the end is always near.

The song title misleads: the song is not about famous people, it's about perfectly ordinary people who are working and trying to get somewhere in their lives. The video fortifies that, since we see famous people in perfectly ordinary positions "performing" a perfectly ordinary act: they're sleeping.

When you connect that to the Desiderio painting the video was inspired by (where twelve random people are lying similarly) the implication becomes clear: we can never see these celebrities as normal people. The act of catching them asleep becomes an act of "exposing" them as if their physicality is the key to their essence as a human being. "Catching" them as being normal people is automatically enhanced by an almost p-rnographic dimension: we treat the bodies of celebrities like objects we can lay claim to. They can't be seen as normal people anymore, because they are already enslaved to the ideas we force upon them.

We keep missing their essence as persons because we are not communicating with them. We spy on them. And their actual lives are enfolding in their dreams, to which we have no access, because we only want to catch them in the act of being normal, and punish them for it, feel empowered by that punishment. We glorify them as larger than life while simultaneously cursing them for being devoid of it. The idea of a celebrity becomes a category, hence they're all in the same bed.

The mystery of the bodies being real or fake just adds to the theme: we want to know if that naked chick is really Taylor Swift as if the body will magically be enhanced with the idea of fame. We are seeing Taylor's boobs, how brilliant. They don't even look that good. I know I have better boobs. The game continues.

That's my interpretation. I think it's quite a lovely statement because the visual effect is immediate. We mentally cannot see that collection of people as normal people. They are performing to our fancies even when they're not conscious. We own them and we can paint them as saints (I do think Kanye sought to make a connection with the twelve apostles) or wh-res to our delight.

When you're going to quote my post and respond to it, hell yes I can say that something's unrelated to what I said. What I wrote about the public communicating with celebrities has nothing to do with Kanye "talking at his fans not to them".

That's not even interpretation, that's just an off-topic comment  I meant no offense. Art is absolutely subjective but that comment about Kanye talking at his public is not relevant to our conversation or even the video.

You asked me to explain what the video meant after you absolutely trashed it to all seven hells, so the question wasn't even genuine, it was mockery. So forgive me for then reading your response to my explanation as similarly loaded with questionable intent. Just like I'm reading this post now. Never did I say your interpretation was wrong, in fact, I asked you how your interpretation could be applied to the actual imagery in the video. I wonder why you didn't meet that challenge like I met yours earlier.

Then why did you describe the video as non-artistic? As simple self-marketing? Is that not an objective statement? You're blatantly contradicting yourself here, I'm just letting you and everyone else know.

Unless I have called Gaga the "best" artist then I have not contradicted myself.

So let me break it down for you. A chronology of my thought processes whilst watching and reviewing the video.

My first reaction to Kanye's "Famous" music video was one of disgust. He's wearing art on his sleeve. He's name dropping. He's using nudity as a marketing ploy. My second reaction was one of contemplation. This is too trashy to be a mistake. My third reaction was a chain reaction. I now appreciate Kanye's video. But for contrary reasons to the ones you praise it for. Kanye's actually making fun of everyone for kissing his ass all the damn time. Utter brilliance.

Lucas

Kanye is smart. He wanted to share a message in the video, no matter what it is, he succeed at it. He's winning even more considering the video gains free publicity by its controversy.

Isn't it what Gaga wanted with the Do What U Want video? Sharing a message & getting the free publicity from the controversy?

Explain how though.

The Beatles once claimed that they were bigger than Jesus. This is Kanye saying that He is better than Jesus. Or more precisely, He embodies the Messiah.

It is the final realisation of the cult of Yeezus.

What was Kanye's first single? Jesus Walks.

And what was Kanye once upon a time? Hated by the media. Crucified. Demonised.

And what is He now? The saviour of Art. Art can and will cleanse our corporate minds and save our souls.

True that although He is making a mockery of the pagan fame cycle, and how the very same people who hated him at the start are now worshipping Him, He offers us a path to redemption.

What is it, I hear you ask?

Look at all the lifeless bodies in the bed. That is what we will become (unless we are already there) unless we start to love art.

Art is pleasure through pain. We need to create art. It is the only way to Salvation. Life is art is creation. When we make art, we make love.

So when we are in bed, we should not envy. We should not hate. We should not cry (unless it's tears of pleasure). We should always be creating.

In our dreams and when we are awake. Unlike Jesus, who had no choice but to follow fate, Kanye gives us the choice.

Then why did he choose celebs/artists (and himself) to portray that?
