They may intend to buy the album later on, as I have done so with Cry Baby, Lemonade, ANTI, and others, but there isn't the money for the purchase at the moment. Just my two cents. Kinda like how there's also a MTN video with 14 million views. That's different. Obviously there are videos with material that should be removed, but considering the content YT gets daily, expecting everything with copyrighted material removed is a very tough expectation

Moreck 15
Apparently most people can only like an artist until they express interest in actually making money from their careers. You music "fans" are disgusting, turning on Swift and Gaga like this. You should all be ashamed of yourselves. It's not Swift or Gaga's fault that you're too poor to buy music. Obviously there are videos with material that should be removed, but considering the content YT gets daily, expecting everything with copyrighted material removed is a very tough expectation Exactly, Youtube takes a proactive approach to removing/muting copyrighted material (except where licensing agreements regarding fan uploaded material are in place) so what are these artists even physically expecting, bar a complete shutdown of the site . Even doing so would have almost no effect on people using/listening to their material on alternative, probably more problematic platforms. Also RE: artists deserve their money too - of course they do, but in all industries; employee incomes and the necessity for certain jobs change as technology progresses. It's just a reality that the 'game' is different now, just as it for shop cashiers being replaced by self-service machines

Up-and-coming acts have no clout to influence big corporations like YouTube, so it's up to the biggest artists to speak up for them. All of you complaining that she is "contradicting" herself or is all about the bling now are missing the point...and incredibly shortsighted. The music industry is in survival mode, and if they don't do anything about the way music is monetized now we won't have a music industry in 15 years. Artists & labels want sites like YouTube to get better at finding & taking down people who reupload artists music. The more fake music/lyric videos there is up the more chance there is of people clicking on them and the money made not going to the correct people. For example the fanmade Donatella video has millions of views and none of those profits have gone to Gaga or her label.

But don't even think about removing videos that simply use a song in the background or as part of a montage for entertainment purposes or incorporates the song in any way that is clearly not intended for gaining a profit. That is fair use and it's part of our rights. I don't think that's what Fair Use is. Fair use is when you use a song in a contextual situation in which the song is required, for example studying the lyrics (not including lyric videos) or any other aspect of the song for an actual purpose. Simply using the song for background music is not included in fair use, otherwise radios and bars wouldnt have to pay royalties to use commercial music. Pablo 7,685
artists who own the copyrights of songs should be allowed to take down videos where they are not receiving money for it. period. There is no controversy here. Songs in movies need to be purchased and such, youtube isn't any different. Don't visit my profile
Kayla 7,595
Well years ago I used to make Youtube playlists to listen to music so I can definitely see how plebeians like me would strip those artists of some cash. Not to mention, listening to someone's rando video with a song in it just to hear the song means the song is being "streamed" but it's not being counted, so the artist also misses out on that too. So I understand where their frustration is coming from.
Adakam 2
It depends on how picky they want to be on this, theres obviously a problem with people uploading the raw studio songs, you look up pretty much any song and theres many copies of it, but I have a few concerns and questions: Whats gonna happen with tour/live videos recorded by people? What about llyric videos? (which arent rly necessary specially since artists usually upload official ones) What about video where a song is used to tribute/honor the artist? What about people covering the songs? (which has actually brought many singers to light, like Maria Aragon's Born this Way, or Greyson Chance's Paparazzi? I wouldnt like to see many young artists being affected by this, also if anything, it promotes the actual song. too lazy to look if these things have been mentioed already, anyone? What they need to be careful with tho, is that in many cases, video like this help promote the song and expand it, so are a few exra bucks coming from this, more than the unmeasurable effect of the promo?
