YouTube Revenue

Rihanna also has massive earnings from her VEVO channel on YouTube. She likely gets around $7 for every 1,000 views, and her channel has garnered 7 billion views, adding about $43 million to Rihanna’s net worth.

Did any of you read exactly what this petition is about?

Youtube is taking advantage of many artists' work to make money, and guess what, the artists don't get the money they deserve. This is beyond money. It's about getting back for what you worked for.

Would you like Youtube getting like, I don't know, 70% of your work? It's not fair.

I don't get why everyone is acting like she became all of a sudden a money grubbing wench, tbh. It's so childish the way ppl think of show business, like it's the one line of work in which you're not allowed to fail and in which money is not supposed to matter at all...

The "money not the bling" thing only means that money should not be the primary reason an artist does something, not that "sure, let giant companies, who had nothing to do with the creation of the song, make profit using my work"...

I mean it's not contradicting at all and I really feel stupid having to point out the obvious here...unless you're, like the rest of the internet, just looking for a reason to get upset, in which case reason and logic are absolutely beside the point...

I totally get the reasons for their complaints and I much rather have them receive more money for the music they make instead of annoyingly coming up with clothing lines, cosmetic lines, kitchenware, tampons, etc, etc, etc, that other ppl create for them, which ya'll have no issues with, by the way...

Having said all that, I think she should have been out of this...this is battle that should be fought by ppl who are in the lime-light at the moment - in the same way Taylor did back when she pulled her music from spotify -, it should be Adele and Bey stepping up...

ATTENTION: (bad) jokes and sarcasm are still a thing, so don't take everything I say literally. Thank you.

YouTube has already became very strict when it comes to copyrighted material.

You can't upload any Taylor Swift song without it being taken down and getting a strike on your account. Even some big YouTubers have had troubles with YouTube for their Taylor Swift parodies.

For people who don't understand how YouTube works it may seem like a good thing but this only means that fair use of copyrighted material will slowly die from YouTube and soon no one will be able to upload any material that contains copyrighted material.

You can't monetize a video if it contains copyrighted material so there are not many loopholes to close when it comes to copyright on YouTube. YouTube already does a great job recognizing copyrighted material.

Y'all know music not the bling is about not compromising your  art for money, like not doing what you want and doing something just because you know it'll sell. It's not about doing things for free. Stop using random lyrics and quotes out of context against Gaga it's stupid.

I don't see anything contradicting what she's said in the past. "Music not the bling" doesn't mean she shouldn't get paid for her work.

She is oke of richest female musicians rn so she's obviously getting paid :sis:

Exactly tbh

Music Not The Bling to me is make music to inspire people and not to gain luxuries.

It Doesn't mean don't stand up for what you believe in, even if it's a financial situation.

VERY CONTRADICTING OF HERSELF:fthis:. Just because Gaga is my fave doesn't mean I will let this slide. What happen to "Music Not The Bling". I guess that money-hungry white devil was a terrible influence on her.:diane:

Think  about it this way: Would you want low quality copies of your art out there, when the high quality original is available for easy streaming?

I don't see anything wrong.  If youtubers make money from their videos, and they happen to use an artist's song in the background, then they should pay royalties (regardless if the background music had an impact in views).  The point is, "You used my song and your video made money because it garnered a lot of views. You should pay me royalties".

It's like purchasing something, and "selling" it again even if it says "not for individual retail sale" or "not for resale".
