Raikov 183
Ridiculous. Disappointed that Gaga would be involved with this. YouTube already has an automated service that finds copyrighted material and monetizes it for the copyright owner. Do they want them to remove anything featuring their music at all? Please note that if they do do that, you can say goodbye to lyric videos, fan music videos, covers, and remixes. All of which are primarily made by fans with no intention of making money and who pose no threat to these artists. I'm reading some articles and their argument is that because YouTube is free, this somehow gives them an advantage over streaming companies like Spotify... although with YouTube, you pay through ads. Just like free Spotify. They're worried about a "broken notice-and-take-down system," although there's no solid stats anywhere about how much is being lost due to this supposedly broken system (and as YouTube creators can tell you, your videos can be flagged automatically. They can even be flagged by people who don't own the copyright). I am not convinced that this is anything other than greed. It'd be nice if some ACTUALLY brave artist stood up against the record company executives who keep most of the profit from their music, but that's too risky - it's easier to complain that free options for Spotify and YouTube are ruining the music industry. The thing is, if people can't listen to music in a free, legal manner, they'll do it in an illegal manner. I don't know if that's considered a win.
