Except the phrase "imitation is the highest form of flattery" isn't usually applied to when someone is intentionally and openly referencing the original, so I'm not sure what your point is. I'm a massive ABBA stan. My fav songs of them (which are not in the OP) probably top most of my fav Madonna songs because of emotional connection etc. Madonna's not my heavenly goddess, I've been shitting all over her post-2012 career on this forum, actually. Then why did you bring up the fact that Madonna sampled ABBA two times when someone made a comment about Madonna being better, and a third time (out of nowhere this time) to back up someone saying ABBA was legendary? Then why do call out other people for derailing the thread when they're posting that Madonna is the better artist, but not when others are posting ABBA is? It's clear what you're doing. To me anyway. Then surely at the very least Madonna's understanding, usage and context of the phrase is important? Otherwise it makes no sense as to why you'd try to use it against her. As others have said, the post was 'derailed' and taken off-topic (if apparently anything other than a VS list counts as off-topic) from the very first page . Ditto on the narrative and agenda of the thread being more than implicitly clear too but that's not too much of an issue really I guess...
