Didymus

1. Abzu (by Absu, 2011)

Absu-Abzu.jpg

American black metal. Six tracks of masterfully written chaos, incredible technical performances, and lyrics inspired by Near Eastern mythology and occultism that deserve scholarly analysis. No faults in this masterpiece, therefore first position.

2. I Got a Name (by Jim Croce, 1973)

5014797890060.jpg

Fantastic 70's folk rock with a country edge. Jim's legendary voice never ceases to pull you in, each and every one of the songs is memorable and effective in that elegant simplicity he's known for. The perfect record when on the road or on a hike. I take these songs everywhere in my head for hope, courage, and companionship.

3. Cassette (by Viet Cong, 2013)

83bbf8ab.jpg

Glorious, evocative post-punk gem with clever yet deeply personal lyrics. Another perfect album for on the road. Brilliant songwriting and production. This album's inherent "coolness" is just not up for debate, and with that problem out of the way from the start this hidden treasure is a fantastic listen.

4. Sitra Ahra (by Therion, 2010)

Therion_-_Sitra_Ahra.jpg

Swedish symphonic metal. Imaginative, atmospheric metal with a delicious vintage production. Seamless blend with orchestral and choral elements, and beautiful lyrics inspired by Kabbalah, occultism, and world mythology.

5. Erotica (by Madonna, 1992)

41cMtNLORZL.jpg

Bold, adventurous, deeply personal and unforgettable pop release. Rarely do pop records take their time like this, rarely do they go on this long without diminishing in quality, rarely do they evoke so much atmosphere and narrative. Fantastic production, brilliant lyrics, and the most effective Madonna has ever been in terms of vocal delivery. Slamming.
