But you really have no proof of that. Someone shooting the gun could have sparked outrage with the shooter and he could have shot more people.

There's no factually based ideas. Just something you think could have possibly maybe could have probably not happened.

Youre really worried that he'd get mad that youre trying to defend yourself? I really dont think that could have made it worse, he murdered 50 people. I think he shot pretty much everybody in the place.

And kill others as well. Could've been more than 50 killed....

Youre thinking of someone completely incompetent. Its really not that hard to aim and shoot a gun.

Florida law prevents them carrying firearms into nightclubs, so no one could have had a gun (legally). Apart from the large crowds and the likelihood of not even being able to make visual contact with the shooter, another problem with engaging these mass shooters is that many have body armor that will defeat common handgun rounds (note that Omar Mateen attempted to purchase this).

For example, in Tyler, Texas a shooter with a semi-automatic AK-pattern rifle, Hernandez Arroyo, was engaging police in a gunfight. A local resident, Mark Wilson, managed to sneak up on Arroyo while he was distracted by the police. Wilson took cover behind a truck and fired a .45 round which struck Arroyo. They exchanged shots, and as Arroyo approached, Wilson stood up from behind the truck and fired more rounds into Arroyo.

However, Arroyo managed to shoot and kill Wilson because he was wearing a bullet proof vest under his clothing. Therefore, if this is a concern, it would be best to have a weapon that can pierce soft body armor. For example, the FN Five-seveN pistol with appropriate ammunition.

No, there were 300 people in the club. Two thirds of them escaped without bodily injury.

By the way, an off duty policeman was a security gaurd that night and had a gun. He exchanged fire with the murderer.

Some random person with a gun, who didn't have years of training and had never shot at someone or even shot someone MIGHT have been able to get a shot off, of they might have been in a place to escape or might have been hit early on and never even had a chance. The element of surprise and the normal human reaction of survival are major factors at play in these highly intense situations.

If that were true, then security and policeman would never get killed.

Mateen didnt have body armor though. Some do and some dont. At least there's a chance that the one trying to kill you and your friends doesnt have it.

I really dont think it would be that hard to make visual contact. It would depend on where its happening (a school, bar, business....) But even if it is, theres a chance that you might and you could stop him. Without a gun there's no chance at all.

And maybe the law should be changed? There are other states that allow concealed carry.

Im glad there was at least one person there that shot back. I think a random person could have got a shot off since at different times he stopped to text his wife and surf the internet.

They have a better chance of defending themselves, but ordinary people do too all the time. Its better than just being a sitting duck, then you have no chance at all..
