I would kinda agree with you if you said only song, but there's no way or formula for writing successful song. There are songwriting techniques, just as their are techniques to writing anything else. These are techniques that can be learned, practiced, and enhanced. There's no one formula for writing a successful song, but there are patterns and yes- there are formulas to writing music. "Verse1 - Chorus1 - Verse2 - Chorus2 - Bridge - Chorus3" - That's a formula. Rhyming schemes play into this as well, and there are other techniques that can be used. Do you have to be rude about it? I specified "no ONE formula" as a way of saying "there's no one completely right way to do it," or have you never heard that phrase before? Like if I say "There's no one way to make sweet tea" it doesn't mean there's NO way to make sweet tea, it means there's more than JUST one way to do it. Just like there's more than one way to write a song, and some of those methods involve formulas that can be learned and practiced.

No one is saying Rihanna is even close to Gaga's level. But it illustrated the point: despite the fact we know Gaga writes most of her lyrics, many of her songs have 5+ writers. It makes it quite easy to understand that you can change only slight things to get a writing credit. It's why I roll my eyes when people say "OMGz it took x writers for her to mumble workworkworkblahbalbhablh" like... We all know that isn't how it works. Probably one or two people wrote the bulk of the song and others changed it. It's exactly the same as saying OMG I can't believe Gaga needed 7 other writers to write "I live for the applauseplause live for the applauseplause" because we know that isn't how it happens. It's either ignorance or delusion with the sole intention of "dragging" another artist.

That isn't even close to being a contradiction lol. Of course you've "had enough" because you can't comprehend and respond to simple points with any reasonable logic

RepentingSinner 2,642
Take Work for example, that was nearly done before Rihanna even touched it. Shes not a writer.

It also doesn't need to be successful bc that is subjective.... Songwriting is a combination of heart and mind.

I would kinda agree with the op, if she only said writing song, but she mentioned the word successful, and i couldn't agree, but yo are totally right that's subjective and it depends from a lot of factors.
