If the purpose is to honor an artist who's videos have been creative and inspiring and different from the norm, then lady Gaga for sure deserves it before Rihanna or Katy Perry. Rihanna's videos are ok and Katy's are as well however the world can't deny that Gaga set the bar high for videos.

I honestly think they're just doing it now every year because ratings and attention for that show are dropping and this way they can make it seem a bit more relevant/exciting :smh:

I remember when Gaga wasn't there last year but they used her Applause performance during one of their in-show videos :toofunny:

Katy definitely marked her place in the industry, like it or not. I think she's been working her ass off all throughout the years. Meanwhile, other pop stars take their breaks, some are really LoooooooooooooooooonG5. Not that it's not normal to take a break, but yeah. She, among one of the many stars, deserves it.

But Gaga's break is not longer than Katy's

If this is true

She has no outstanding videos. A couple of cute ones (Hot N Cold, WUIV, California Gurls, ET) but none that deserve this recognition

A mess. A ki. A cackle.

Omg that gif is serving

On a serious note gaga's meat dress + bad romance video are enough impacts on mtv culture and deserving of that award

It's dumb, but I can see it happening, promo for her and for the VMAs, at this time, the can offer her as the only "big" artist of the night since Beyonce, Gaga, Rihanna and Adele are doing... nothing.

I mean let's take a look:

Paparazzi - intriguing plot, amazing visuals and premise (supposedly foresaw/predicted her own career and even hip injury), the first video in recent years to generate much buzz

Bad Romance -   :firega:enough said

Telephone - a cultural/phenomenal event. Heavily anticipated and was talked about for months, featured Beyonce, included tons of pop culture references from iconic films to video games

Alejandro - controversial and yet with amazing imagery

Born This Way - another visual juggernaut

And yet with all this, even some of her own fans would think it's too early for her :toofunny: I mean this is the Gaga that was the first artist to have two nominations for the video of the year in the same year and won a grammy for best short form video for one of those nominations

Katy has several hits. But I don't seem to recall other artists saying that they have been inspired by her videos or whatever. Gaga has several younger artists calling her an inspiration. After Telephone, critics have been saying she was the only one who could reach the MJ-Madonna stratosphere in terms of videos

Let's be honest, it's been an awful while since Gaga last released a great memorable music video, it wouldn't make any sense to give her that award now. On the other hand, Katy's last era was extremely consistent when it came to its singles and videos, so I'm not gonna act dumb and pretend like it doesn't make sense to award her.

I think Taylor Swift could have also snatched that, but she just finished her 1989 era, so promo-wise, Katy is the one who needs to come back into the limelight to prepare the field of her comeback, so once again it makes sense.

You can't remember the last time Gaga dropped a memorable music video right (that means she has some) right?

Now go to YouTube or vevo and pick out one of Katy's memorable music videos let's see:wtf::wtf::wtf:

Gaga has so many Grammys she got honored by the museum + a golden globe + billboard woman of the year + song writers hall of fame icon award. Some of these Katy might never have but I can bet Gaga will get that vanguard award + perform at her own half time show

All am saying is let's let Katy have her time it will be as memorable in pop culture as her MVs
