Redstreak 6,653
Some people talk about the country's culture as if that's a roadblock that can't change. If you want it to change, stop voting for those that simply maintain the status quo. Of course none of this would immediately change with Bernie, but he'd definitely give it a jumpstart that the culture desperately needs. Our country is eventually heading this way, it's inevitable, but we can either make that come faster or slow; our choice. Take a moment to think of just flexibility, love, and trust~
Whispering 18,865
People in the US don't want to pay the tax rates that other countries pay. The states can't afford Bernie's college plan either. That's the bottom line. We could have free college (a glorified community college, while the state schools went semi-private) and maternity leave, etc. if people wanted to pay way more taxes. People like their money and their standard of living too much to trade off for benefits and services they have either already paid for or aren't ever going to use. Also, the states have more important and pressing issues to spend their money on. Free college for everyone woukd take money away from the most needy and compromised in their communities. If you take funds away from certain services, you end up hurting the poorest and the minorities. That isn't progress!

And military spending isn't simply lost money, it gives jobs to many people. Those jobs aren't very productive jobs however, as in they don't produce luxury or basic goods for any of the classes, be it lower, middle or upper.
