This isn't a gun issue, it's a mental health issue. Yes, we need more sensible gun restrictions, but this is about people's state of mind.

This isn't a gun issue, it's a mental health issue. If anything should make us "pathetic" it's our relationship with mental health awareness.

I'm glad this dialogue is being brought into conversation. Hope everyone is safe and feeling okay. 

I actually go to UCLA and it was a really terrifying & 'real' experience. You don't feel the panic that's felt around the campus until you're in the middle of it all. I was in the building in which the shootings started this morning and the entire campus was on lockdown. Everything was very much chaotic even though it seemed like it was under control, and still pretty shaken up. But everything is okay now! 

I think to state this issue as a 'mental health' issue is really just a band-aid and avoiding the real problem. Why are these guns so accessible? What then makes violence on campuses so plausible? This is a real thing, and I've finally experienced it, and it's a nightmare.

It's not an 'issue' that needs fixing, it's just a fact. "Gun-free zones" don't apply to entire suburbs, and unless the whole nation was a "gun-free zone" there will always be somewhere to bring guns from.

Well if most places were gun free we'd reduce situations like this, I think. Kind of like Australia. Although they are special since they can control what comes into the country better than the US can due to their geography. 

And I say it is an issue when you have gun shops literally two streets down from a school (I know from experience).

If theres a gun involved its a gun issue. Thats just how it is. People should never have access to guns and america gets proof for that nearly every month. If its impossible to have a gun he wouldnt have shot people and there wouldnt have been a problem.

That's an absolutely terrible argument. If it was a mass stabbing, should we ban all knives? If people really want to do something, like this mass shooting, they'll find a gun in one way or another. Banning them just allows for a larger, less managed, underground black market.

Most places won't be gun-free, it's unconstitutional. And I don't see the issue with gun stores near schools... what is it, exactly?

I mean it seems counter-productive to have a gun free zone aimed at being 'safe' while you have a gun store down the street.

You were in the building? I was in lockdown in biomed. It was a totally different environment in there, nobody seemed phased at all, just kept studying for finals or acted annoyed they couldn't leave. But then again it's biomed, I think 90% of people in there are sociopaths anyway. A few of my classmates had siblings in Boelter though, and I have a cousin with an office in there who happened to stay home today from a cold. Scary stuff.
