People can't mock Blacks, Jews, or Homosexuals without being socially ostracized for their bigotry, so they turn their hate to a subculture and minority who it is acceptable to **** on, the hipsters. The song warrants criticism. It's a song, not the Holocaust. People will hate with or without the help of media. It's not like Katy Perry was writing some sorta brainwashing melody that made people go out and do hateful things to others. Also, everyone hated scene/emo people those days. Mainly because they made fauxsexual even more popular and made it prevalent among guys. It's a song. While I admit some song do have outreaching effects and the sorta thing, thinking that this stupid little thing did more than make some people laugh is a travesty. I dont think she meant any harm and I can't believe I will say this but even gay culture was not this mainstream as it is now. What about a decade can do for progress... So true though -- I remember when "I Kissed A Girl" came out everyone was SHOOK  Now Demi Lovato can sing 'got a taste for the cherry' in "Poot for the Summer" and no one bats an eyelash

VenusBlackStar 1,301
Still don't like it just cuz the ignorance and stereotyping. I get that she's shattering an exes masculinity (we all know it's not that hard to do) but the way she does it just tastes bad to me. This was pretty much right before Gaga came and helped push gay rights farther. It's so interesting to think that soon after this song came out all the gay GAGA MAGIC was raining down on the world. Â No one compared Ur So Gay to the Holocaust but you. It's just a nasty song, with a message worthy of criticism. Â 42 minutes ago, DeathofSamantha said: Wasn't Poker Face the same then? Â No. Poker Face is a song written and performed by an out bisexual, by an artist and activist who has been scrutinized and dismissed for being "too gay," and there for payed her dues. I Kissed A Girl is a song written and performed by a heterosexual, by an artist who invoked token lesbianism to turn on straight men and to appear edgy, but as a heterosexual has never had to pay her dues. Phoenix 17,395
It's an ugly song, she probably never thought she would blow as a superstar or that sjw's would become a trend at that point cause she would never make that. But it tells a lot about her personality. She isn't really what she represent herself for. 💎
Zaza 873
15 hours ago, SKANK said: Â In the interview which you just quoted Perry said she thinks the guy is "okay", she did not explicitly say he was okay with the song, and given the nature of the song it's hard to believe he would share his actual feelings with her. Frankly, how he feels about the song it is completely irrelevant to how offensive it is and how much of a negative impact the song potentially had. Ur So Gay was sung by a pop star all around the world to audiences of thousands, if not millions of people. She spread a message which confirms people's idiotic and narrow minded ideas of what masculinity is, all the while reading a list of gay stereotypes. It's gay to shop at H&M. It's gay to drive an electric car. It's gay to be a vegetarian. "You do all these things yet you aren't gay." Would you be defending a Katy Perry song called Ur So Black, in which she listed all the things her 'cracker' boyfriend did which conformed to black stereotypes? Probably not. I know what the word metrosexual means, do you? Because the song is clearly not about a metrosexual. It's about someone who is emo, or a hipster. But again, that is irrelevant, because she doesn't use the word metrosexual, hipster, or emo to belittle him, she uses the word gay. It comes down to using gay as an insult, and explicitly saying that if you do not conform to our culture's narrow view of what it means to be a man you should kill yourself. At no point in You Outta Know does Alanis tell a man to kill himself, the comparison between the two songs makes absolutely no sense. God knows why someone would feel the need to defend Katy Perry thinking the suicide of effeminate men is appropriate fodder for a pop song or appropriate to sing in stadiums in front of thousands of insecure and impressionable tweens.
