Nobody wants her to fail of course... But rather that you wouldn't mind if it doesn't chart high.

Bear 7,515
I wouldn't care about the charts, especially if I didn't like the music/song as it wouldn't change my opinion on the material. I'd respect her artistry and still wish her success, but I'm not going to be a part of making that success happen I'd like to think that the success of a song was solely dependent on how many people liked it, but that's not necessarily the case anymore

Bebe 17,093
"It really depends on whether you care more for Gaga herself or her art..." I don't think it does. I want Gaga to be happy, but if Gaga's happiness depends on validation from the charts or from sales then that's a problem she needs to work out. I would want Gaga to feel comfortable knowing that if she creates something she is proud of she doesn't need the charts to tell her that. At the end of the day, I think fans in the right frame of mind are here for good music, good performances, good music videos. They want quality and they think Gaga generally delivers that. Charts are irrelevant to that, they don't indicate quality or lack of quality - they indicate what sort of music is currently trendy. Achievements such as #1's or high sales are absolutely wonderful, and it's all well and good to celebrate such achievements, but it's not something that you need. I would be just as happy if a song from Gaga I liked went #1 as if a song that I didn't like went #1. I like her, and I'm happy when she succeeds, but it's not something I really care about and I wouldn't really care if the song didn't go #1. You know what I mean? It's not so much that I hope for chart success, it's just a nice little achievement to celebrate when it does happen. So yeah, if Gaga released a song I didn't like (or a song I did like) I wouldn't want it to fail on the charts and I would hope that Gaga does well, I just wouldn't be upset if it didn't do well cause it's not something I value that much. Weasel 12,525
If it'd get to #1 i'd still be happy. Must mean she did something right and people do like it. I'd never wish her no succes though.

Like maybe 4 example in a scenario where she releases a new EDM song that is annoying, bland and full of cringey lyrics, and you feel really disappointed, would you even hope it charts well on the hot 100? I really don't know how to answer this question. It really depends on whether you care more for Gaga herself or her art... I'm confused about your statement and the options you give. The higher a song charts, it's not as if it's artistic integrity increases too. I don't know how many times I have to say that commercial success does not = artistic merit. And the more you insist this blatant lie, the more you're giving cringeworthy and overrated credit to the formulaic regurgitated bubblegum trend-following repetitive morally reprehensible migrane-inducing intellectually deficient garbage spewed out by mere vehicles for corporate profit. This is the poison in pop culture. If you don't have shadows you're not standing in the light.
