avalon x 4,141
Well, I don't expect an Adele video to have a lot going on but they could at least have TWO locations in the video. On the plus side this could serve as a good interlude for Adele's 25 ball tour.

I did like the video the first time I watched it, I thought it was quite refreshing actually. Now that I read your comment though, you are right in that this would make a better interlude or backdrop video than an actual single-release music video and I think that's why I might have liked it so much. It was so simple and artistic looking that it would be perfect for a concert. I don't understand pineapples, so I don't eat bananas.

Manul 7,377
The actual **** is this video. What kind of mess. Wtf. I can only imagine everyone that was there on the show when it was premiered, cackling. Spoiler Maybe she was high in the making? I refuse to believe that this was shot by a professional director. I thought Dangerous Woman and both the Work visuals set a new, extremely high bar about making extremely boring music videos, but this one is pure savage in that way. it wasn't laaaahv
Bolkins 4,117
Meh, its not a bad video but its not one id go back and watch again. The multilayering is cool though, I think the purpose of it is to match the multilayering Adele vocals in the song, in each visual layer she is singing the different parts of what you can hear. Not the bore worms!

OMonster 14,664
Why did Adele think this was a good idea She has something like this during her tour. When you're there, it's exactly like watching that video - but live. She stands on a platform and she is essentially consumed by a portal/spotlight of live footage of herself from the moment, all blurry and overlapping... it's hard to explain, but I'm sure a lot of you have seen it. She obviously likes this more artistic look. I really don't understand why. Both in the MV and on her tour, it makes everything so confusing. At one point in her tour performance, it was literally hard to see her. Very odd. I guess it's interesting she's at least trying something a bit more out there, though. subtext / fantasy

StrawberryBlond 14,577
Absolutely ridiculous excuse for a music video. Emphasis on the word "excuse" because there was going to have to be another video made or the fans would have been out for blood. So they came up with this mess. This is not half-assing, this is quarter-assing. Terrible, cheap layering effect, bad styling which made her look older than she is (that effect at at 33 seconds actually made her face look really scary and it was like she'd aged 20 years for a second) and a weak attempt at "dancing." Seriously, Adele stated that she'd be dancing in this. Swaying, flapping your hands and spinning does not constitute dancing! This video, and all her other videos up until this moment, come to that, perfectly encapsulate my idea of Adele as a lazy artist. She is terrified of trying something new musically or visually and is even literally lazy, she can't even be bothered to move half the time! For those of you saying this is an artistic choice, standing still does not equate to artistic just because people tend to do the opposite in videos. Neither does simplicity automatically translate to artistic. Sometimes, it's just because the artist was too lazy to come up with anything. So, they sell it as artistically simplistic. It's code for laziness. Let's just call a spade a spade. If this video was translated into a homework assignment, it would get a D at best. It's amazing how easily people will be swayed just because it's Adele. All her videos are borefests and she only makes 2 per album. She just can't be bothered. Most indie artists would give their right arm to have the freedom to express their lyrics through the visual form of video but don't have the funds. Adele has the funds and throws it down the drain. And no, just because I'm a fan of Gaga isn't the reason why I dislike this video. Simplistic can be good. TEOG was simplistic. But there's simplistic and then there's lazy. Don't get the two mixed up. I really despise this new trend for lazy music videos. If it was a boring song, it's understandable, but it's not as if all these songs are so lyrically and sonically empty that they require an uneventful video. I could think up a couple of ways a simplistic but reasonable music video could have been constructed out of this song and I'm not even an artist or director. But Adele is an artist and she has professional directors. So, this is what a team of professionals came up with? A video of nothingness? A video an amateur would have been embarrassed about? Jeez, what do we pay these people for?
