Hollywood needs to get new ideas. I'm not here for it because there is already a ghostbusters.

They turned Ghostbusters into a comedic chick flick... :emma: I wouldn't say that the backlash is surprising, but I do think that it's a little intense. :laughga: It seems pretty funny imo. I'll watch it.

Most movies coming out are new ideas. Go to film festivals and watch Oscar nominated movies.

I don't understand the backlash for this film.

It looks like a fine, female comedy.

I'll be seeing it. So all these crybaby nerds can kiss my ass.

I'm so torn on this. On the one hand, it would be great to see a movie, that was once all-male leads and had a largely male fan following, get re-booted with an all female cast and it actually is a hit. Women in film and women viewers have always been grossly under-represented. It would be awesome to see all expectations of what sells get thrown out the window and show that a female cast can indeed be a cash spinner and women do indeed see movies. But on the other hand, all that's great if the film is actually good. It's annoying when a female gets to the top but then lets herself down in some way, so that no one likes her, male or female. Instances like that is what makes the media, corporations and people in general, think that women are unreliable, not to be trusted, too much of a risk. From what I've seen of the trailers so far, the CGI looks very cheap and the jokes aren't getting laughs. This is really bad considering how far special effects have come and how far female comedy has come. I haven't even seen the movies but even I know this is too big a franchise to mess up. We saw what happened with the new Batman Vs. Superman film - something that had been so eagerly anticipated for years didn't deliver the goods. It's a myth that any male-fronted film will be automatically accepted. In reality, it will if it's good. Who's to say the same can't happen for a female-fronted film? We saw Bridesmaids be a big hit with critics and audiences. If the film's good, you will get praised. If it's bad, you won't. Whether we like it or not, this is people power in action and that's a positive thing. Hollywood's got to stop thinking it knows best and thinks that it knows what the public wants. When the public give them a backlash, they will listen and give us something better, trust me.

Now, about the whole "misogynists are the only people against it" angle. While, yes, that may have been a reason for some, it is overly simplistic and offensive to people's intelligence to claim that this is the only reason for the hate. If someone rebooted a favourite film of yours with the opposite gender, wouldn't you be pissed too? I'd rather see a female-fronted original film, I'm not particularly interested in seeing a film re-imagined with a female cast. That's just shameless pandering and isn't about treating women with respect like we like to think it is. I don't understand why its seen as a feminist statement. If it was the other way around, men would get dragged for being misogynistic. Imagine if Charlie's Angels was re-imagined with a male cast. Can you see such a thing getting praise from critics and an audience? No. So, what's the difference? Why is it so feminist and forward-thinking to re-imagine something with a female cast? If anything, it's saying that women are only worthwhile when they're rip-offs of existing male characters, as opposed to new, original female characters.

Katharine Hepburn

This movie is stereotyping women and that women who is black is reduced to just her skin colour which is so gross. It just feels like an insult to women and to the original ghost busters movie. Not here for it.

It's not a reboot.

They are not ditching the old movie for a new one, it's just another adaptation from the original book.
