retroglamx 5,178 Posted May 16, 2016 Share Posted May 16, 2016 I understand how BTW was so controversial due to the religion and whatnot but in all honesty, I was in high school and I was going through so much **** in my house and I found the confidence in that album to be who I truly am, at least outside the house. Songs like Hair made me realize there's nothing more important than being myself as well as accepting my queerness, my sexuality. Then we had the performance on Taratata which made me fall even more in love with it. It was such a sweet, heartfelt rendition of the song and it felt so personal at one point. And then we had Jamey's suicide and Gaga's performance at the iHeartRadio festival. This song is truly a masterpiece and it's so sweet and innocent and almost delusional. Lyrics like: "I just wanna be free, I just wanna be me and I want lots of friends that invite me to their parties". So sweet. Pink flamingos always fascinated me. Whenever you do an empowerment song it's very easy to take it too a cringe worthy or dark place, but Hair kind of embraces its fun and darkness in a way that gets the message across. Although it has an incredibly dreamy, and anthematic melody, the only criticism I have is that the album version comes across as too "overproduced". I think had they stripped back the clunkiness of it and just let the beat and her voice drive it, it would've been a lot better. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
