What's a screener? Do the voters actually sit down in a room and watch the show together before casting their votes?

They're copies for voting members. They have the same system for the oscars (that's why so many movies leak around January/February). I don't know if every voting member actually sits down and watches everything, but that's what they should do. For the Oscars, Variety and The Hollywood Reporter do these anonymous interview with Academy people and they they often say that since they didn't watch this or that they don't vote in the entire category.

That pisses me off though. If someone that badly wanted to be in the academy, then shouldn't they be an avid TV watcher? A critic? Someone who enjoys watching hours of content and deciding where the true talent lies? Ugh.

I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

I see. Does that mean OP is a voter? Or at least his friend is? @MarcusBonesXXX

At least they're encouraged to watch everything before casting their votes, which is why popularity does play a role in getting you nominated (the same applies for the Grammys), some people just don't watch the least popular shows.

Well no, you're judged by the peers in your industry who know the value of your work. Voting members, be it for the Oscars or Emmys, range from critics to producers to technicians to actors and everybody in between. Not everybody votes in every category though. Like, to be able to vote in the technical categories you need to have special credits. The rest of the categories are general I think.

The Golden Globes, on the other hand, is voted by the Hollywood Foreign Press, which is this panel of international "critics", but they're shady as ****. First of all, most of them are not even critics and like, award campaigns have all these rules and regulations and they've been known to not give a single **** and basically accept payloa. So yeah, personally I think the other method is best

I have no idea haha. OP said his friend gave it to him, so maybe he is a registered Emmy voter. Or maybe he got in on eBay ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Some screeners become collectibles overtime, like for example  Les Miserables came in a really cool box and they were going for like 350 dollars, or maybe it's a different cut of the movie/show than the one that is going to be commercialized later. You're supposed to return them or destroy them but I don't think anyone does it lmao.

Yeah, ethically you're supposed to watch everything in the category before voting, but I don't think many do. That's why categories like Best Foreign Short Film or those obscure categories at the pre Grammy telecast barely get any votes compared to the others :toofunny:

So what is this to be exact, OP?

It's the DVDs of the season and the packet contains the submissions for Emmy voters.

My friend is a production assistant and he knows how much I love Gaga so he got me a copy. His job is to distribute these to Emmy voters. :)
