Sister

I am on the side of the organic, but I am accepting of both, especially since she initially won me over as a pop princess.

The future's uncertain and the end is always near.

Damn, looks like half of this site wants Gaga to suffer physically and emotionally by having 2 flop eras in a row. You pretentious dinguses ever think SHE WANTS TO do pop?

Abandoning the sound that made her famous. Smart. Y'all need to realize the music business is a business, and businesses need money to survive, and if she wants to serve a tired and retro mess, then she's gonna flop.

idk why so many want her to be something she's not.

Not sorry if I sound synical 😘

Non pop genres aren't retro all the time. Her doing non pop music actually shows more evolution nfrom her.

Pop is basically "tame" versions of other genres... I don't mean that in a bad way, just that it's based on genres but has it's own structure and tendencies to be more "popular", radio friendly, and marketable.  At various times Jazz, Rock, R&B, Funk (in the guise of disco) Hip Hop, and Electronic have all been the base genre for "Pop" music, but the individual genres go farther in their directions.  Pop pulls from musical trends and tames them down for mass consumption.  Real EDM is unpalatable to many people, compared to the tame version in electronic pop.  Tony Bennetts version of Jazz is very much "pop" music, compared to the wider Jazz genre.

I think her next album will pull from R&B, Funk, and Rock but will still be palatable to pop audiences; thus it will be a pop record.

There have been some great artists that were pop artists.  There is a much larger number of one hit wonders and songs nobody remembers, because pop is often centered around personalities rather than long term talent and the industry doesn't care about long careers but is centered around short term hits.  Thats why artists who want long careers and want to have some authenticity in their work often end up fighting the system.

When some of us say we'd like see Gaga put out a "non-pop" record, it's because we are interested to see what Gaga is capable of unfettered by the demands of the pop industry, radio airplay, and the whims of the pop music consumer.

and yes, that means we don't actually care if Gaga "flops" by pop standards, because those standards are not important to a lot of us.  We are interested in Gaga as an artist more than Gaga as a pop culture phenomenon.  It's not pretentious to want to see the maximum that somebody is capable of.

I'm not on any "team" - I'd love for her to do more rock-influenced music because I know she has amazing potential, but I'll take whatever she gives.

I think it's disappointing however that there are people who want to keep her in the pop bubble forever regardless of anything.

This applies even more so to those that want to keep her in the dance pop box her entire career, when she clearly has wider interests than just that.

The ideal would be a marriage of the two. More compositionally mature music with organic production and rich vocals, but done at the same level of brilliant pop execution as TF/TFM with properly realized concepts and a coherent sound.

I don't think anyone wants or expects her to not go out all out with the promo for this album, it will be huge. But I'm not expecting any choreographed dance routines at least not on her part. The emphasis will be on her vocals and showmanship. I'm expecting some upbeat and danceable singles for sure but much more organic and lively and groove-driven as opposed to the rigid, robotic electronic productions of songs like Applause or GUY.

I feel you, baby.  I love all kinds of music so I'd be content if her album was pure pop, EDM, metal, classic rock 'n roll, R&B, jazz or alternative rock.

I don't care what you think about unless it is about me.

I'm not a fan of pop. I'm a fan of Lady Gaga. :firega: AND she's not a "dance artist", she's an artist, a musician. Gaga once said in that fashion book CR interview, "Some people think about music and they think pop, rock, rap, or hip hop and they just list them off as categories, but music deserves the same freedom that a fine artist would with paint, no rules, a blank canvas. That's jazz. It was totally what I needed in a moment of my career when I felt like a caged animal. And I knew I could do some much more outside that cage than in it."

So stop trying to classify and restrict her as a "pop artist" or "dance artist."
