It may have ruined her public perception in a way (that it became so popular she became over-exposed ) but Call Me Maybe wasn't a single choice from Kiss; Kiss was a last minute reaction to the fact that she became popular and was very rushed to be put out within the year. I still think Kiss, while less mature a record than EMOTION by all accounts is still a great pop record and its honestly what made me stan her in the first place, then I went backwards to Tug of War, which slays as well.

I think what makes the album version so amazing is that it's juxtaposing the real kind of sadness and anger and frustration in the lyrics with the upbeat feel of the song and the production and her vocals. "Sometimes I wish that I could change, but not for me, for you - so we could be "Together" "forever", but I know I know that I won't change for you! Cause where were you for me? When I needed someone, When I needed someone, When I needed you!" It's such a rollercoaster of emotion even just in writing  It's like, screaming out all of that emotion in a positive medium through pop music, it's almost cathartic to me.

Honestly, everyone loves EMOTION for how amazing it is with the melodies, hooks, production, etc. but I also think Carly Rae is honestly just a great song writer and she can write "love" songs that have a wide range of emotion and feeling and make them personable in a really selfless way.

I agree about her songwriting, she's amazing, her lyrics are so relatable and the melodies are even better. I guess I just prefer the sad feeling of the demo, but I get what you mean about the album version being a roller-coaster of emotions.
