Muslim teen called "Isis" in yearbook

Well then that could easily be the case, she doesn't need to pull out the racist card, if someone in the school actually is called Isis then it's just a mistake.

The problem with this reasoning is that someone in the yearbook committee saw a Muslim girl and "accidentally" mistook her for another. That's like someone mistaking a black person or a Latinx person for another simply because of the way that they look. It's still pretty bad. Just my two cents.

her last name isn't Phillips either. there's actually a person named Isis Phillips. it was a mistake. and they wouldn't just do this for fun knowing a shitstorm will be coming their way

 

 

 

What **** storm lol , a discriminated individual can't do **** against a prejudice community 

and even if we take your point into consideration what are the chances that a Muslim woman is caught in the mix-up, I don't know if you know what dark humor is but this a perfect example. The mix-up is extremely humorous to some racist mother****er and such mistakes should not happen otherwise the Uni has to deal with the out bursts for its lack of professionalism.

 and by people like you, I'm honestly not trying to come for you but I feel a lot of people say don't play that card or that card, are being some what ignorant. I mean hey I don't know you but who knows, you may not have a card to play and that's why it's not nice to view forms of discriminations as cards. The metaphor of cards just rubs me the wrong way. At the end of the day this woman was hurt by this mistake. It's like catching your husband in bed with someone and them saying oh don't think of it the wrong way. Like what do you mean off course this girl is gonna feel like she's being attacked. The same way we treat crimes with punishments whether they are on purpose or not , we should consider such mistakes as forms of discrimination. Otherwise **** like this will happen again and again, in her defense and to your point they are using the "mistake" card.

People here tend to be quick to demonize before having the proper context.

Don't be shocked if you get attacked for having a more rational level-headed perspective.

I doubt this was a mistake though. It was probably a student being an idiot like they tend to be at that age, thinking it was funny to switch names. The name also doesn't stand out during editing (like obscenities) so it's fair to assume that the school board did not notice it and are now taking the proper measures.

This girl was hurt though and that needs to be acknowledged, just not at the expense of everything else.

Having been on a yearbook committee before, this was probably on purpose, things can be really shady behind the curtain

I agree, it may or may not have been a mistake, possibly it wasn't, in which case then it's disgusting. However, whenever anything like this happens, everyone seems so quick to jump to RACIST! or SEXIST! or HOMOPHOBIC! without actually considering the possibility that we aren't all inherently discriminatory and we do make mistakes/say the wrong things
