Praise for Kesha AND Gaga

This is NO SHADE towards Kesha, I thought her rendition of TIHTY was very emotional, I liked it a lot. That song is vocally very challenging and she did the best she could, especially in her current position, which must have been REALLY hard. She definitely deserves the praise.

It's just, from a purely technical point of view (emotions aside), that her cover made me realize how GIFTED Gaga is, to be able to perform the hell out of such big songs live, holding her notes and vibrato literally for 10 seconds, while playing the piano at the same time!!!

I'm not comparing them, my point is not to say "Gaga is a better vocalist", it just made me want to appreciate how TALENTED our fave is, it is VERY rare...

No matter how long she takes to write an album, she's truly a musical treasure. We tend to forget it too easily in that "bling bling" pop world, where it's all about stan culture, sales and media impact. Gaga is in a league of her own with a few very talented vocalists.

Fair enough, the thing with TIHTY is that it's really hard to sing live and correctly, you must have a wide vocal range and versatility in order to pull it right.

It was an emotional song choice but I've never really liked the song even when Gaga sings it however she has a much better vocal ability than Kesha but that's not to say Kesha didn't bring something else to the table.

The hardest thing in this world is to live in it

I personally never liked the song, but I think Kesha sounded really good.

You all need to know that Gaga is a classical trained Vocalist and Pianist. She's using old techniques from Opera and Classical Music, that no one in Pop Music has used since the mid 90's. Kesha grew up on Country Music and Pop Music, obviously a Song like 'Til It Happens To You', which sounds very classical, is very different to the norm in Pop Music. Their Lows and Belts sound much different.

Gaga obviously slays 'Til It Happens To You', but gets critic for her over dramatical lows and strained Belting, where she lowers her Larynx in order to get high Belts (like Whitney Houston did), yet the straining sound comes by trying to not get into headvoice.

Kesha, has a Problem with her lows, due to Pop Music being very high. Her Vocal tone is also very unique, so it'll obviously sounds different. I liked her Belt though - although she uses a complete different technique, where she mixes head and chest voice without the straining.

Both Versions sound different and both Singers have different techniques, but you can't deny how much emotion both had put in.

Kesha obviously performed from the heart and the subject matter hits very close to home for her.

But I agree, her rendition really underlined what makes Gaga such a powerhouse singer. She comes from a musical theatre background, singing/dancing/acting, which gives her a massive leg-up against others who are stiff on-stage and/or can't serve three dimensional vocals.
