Dominic 11,922
It's a solid and cohesive album. Do I think it's the second coming of albums? No. Whilst I can appreciate Beyonce's talent I wonder how much she actually inputs into her music. Anyone can be an advocate for justice when they've a team of 20 writing, creating and shaping her era and message. Id like to know how the album itself would have been perceived if it weren't for the visual aid, which I admit is the best part of the entire Lemonade campaign, but I'd like to see the album stand on its own merit because I don't think it's especially groundbreaking. The hardest thing in this world is to live in it

JusKeepBreathin 19,311
There are no albums with scores before the year 2000. That's just a fan score. Like a Prayer wasn't highly acclaimed when it was released. Reviews changed throught the years because of its impact. PopBitch 1,218
I am shocked, and truthfully I thought something like this (not the cheating) would have come from Gaga, a brilliant conceptual album that carried import, a stunning and brilliant visual album all released at the same time, to see the visual, which is definitely art, no doubt about it, with the music, which the visual elevates everything she is saying on the album. And here's Beyonce making this amazing adult album and companion visual videos, and Madonna puts out an album that has some songs pandering to the youth and sticking to the same old religious references (overdone). It made me realize how backwards Madonna has gone for years and underestimates her audience and the pop youth market also, who are quite sophisticated in musical leanings. And this score matters, why? Rollingstone is the end all be all with what good music is? So this means that it's the best album? This means nothing. More pressing matters to keep track of than some silly opinion who's on pay roll to compliment Beyonce. And then don't forget about all the people who don't really care for the album. All this crap to just make it look Beyonce matters and that she is relevant. Tons of negativity out there about Beyonce and that album and her other work, more so than there is about, say, ARTPOP. XoXoJoanneGaga 629
When looking at the complete package of the album and the film, coupled with the fact that metacritic is still quite new relative to the history of modern music, I'm not really surprised at all. The film is really fantastic, it expounds upon and deepens the album's themes in really subtle and enriching ways through the soliloquies and imagery. The album on it's own is nowhere near as great but it still has some excellent tracks. But I think it's fair for critics to review the complete package given that that's how it was released. Didymus 34,380
Nope. Pop music is rarely good enough to be acclaimed and if someone's gonna elevate it it's gonna be either Gaga or Beyoncé (Madge stepped out of the race willingly it seems). I prefer the aesthetic of TF/M to Beyonce's stuff, but you just can't deny the quality on every level of Lemonade no matter if it's not your thing. 90+ is way too high tho, lbr. 83 is enough. Edit: Not counting alternative artists like Allie X, Grimes and Susanne S. as "pop music" here. They're super acclaimed anyway, so I feel like this thread isn't about them in any cae. Varo Yan 2,984
YES, I love Honey Bee and I love her past works, for example "Beyonce" is masterpiece for me - very beautiful music and genius lyrics, but this is absolutely overrated! Look at music - trash - no harmony, boring beat, same repetitious cold sound, no tasty trend, and lyrics - some powerful words which show her individual strength, confident... I dont say she doesnt deserve it, and of course she grows up, but in this case many objective social reasons "help" her to rise. #blackfeminism Even Rolling Stone noticed that in 1 song "Hung Up" worked 15 co-writers...
