Morphine Prince 109,984
Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz offered his support on Thursday to a controversial law in North Carolina that prohibits transgender people from using the bathroom in line with their gender identities, calling the regulation “perfectly reasonable.” The Texas senator was first to announce his bid back in March, and has since been carefully laying the groundwork for a come-from-behind primary victory. “I’m a constitutionalist. And the state has the power to pass their own laws,” Cruz told “Meet the Press” host Chuck Todd during a taped MSNBC town hall in Buffalo, New York — a city that has had a nondiscrimination ordinance protecting transgender people since 2002. The Texas senator appeared to reject the idea that a person’s gender identity could ever be in conflict with the sex assigned to that person at birth — as is the case for transgender people. “As the father of daughters, I’m not terribly excited about men being able to go alone into a bathroom with my daughters,” Cruz said to cheers. “And I think that’s a perfectly reasonable determination for the people to make.” Source: http://www.msnbc.com/msnbc/ted-cruz-defends-anti-lgbt-north-carolina-law

Bette Davis 12,742
I think the thing that bothers me the most when ignorant people talk about this bill is when they refer to trans women as men. It just shows how unbelievably misguided they are. Your daughters wouldn't be in bathrooms with "men," they are women you stupid asshole. Cold as ice cream, but still as sweet. I think they are more concerned of the idea that men would be so horny and perverted that they will use this law as a means of going drag to sneak into the women's bathroom...which is actually already happening... SychosSoChic 9,995
Yeah Ted. A shemale is just gonna crawl into the bathroom, break into your daughters' cubicle and have their way with her. Because men don't already do that. Idiot 1 hour ago, PaperIz said: Exactly. Like if a man is that fd up to do something like that, a law like this isn't gonna stop them Simple as this. Guest
The ridiculous thing about this bill is that many trans people look like the sex that they identify with. If a trans man has to go to the women's bathroom, women will think that it's a guy checking them out and not a trans man being forced to use their bathroom. What will they do in that case? Show their genitals? Have some sort of paper that proves they are trans and have to use the women's bathroom even though they are now male? Who ever came up with this needs to rethink everything about this bill. It is stupid and doesn't make any sense.

But surely this law would protect trans people who just want to use the correct bathroom for what they identify with? If a man is going to be gross and perverted like that and enter the woman's bathroom under the pretence of being trans, sadly I think he would do it, law or not. But if he gets caught out doing something terrible, he'd get in trouble regardless of the law. Identifying as a woman wouldn't protect him from getting prosecuted for whatever nasty stuff he decided to do in there. But if a trans woman is minding her own business in the ladies room, she could be charged under this law... just for using the bathroom. Her other option is to go into the male bathroom, where she'd likely be subject to all kinds of discrimination and perhaps even violence. It just doesn't make sense at all. But did this law really change anything for people who would want to sneak into the women's bathroom with sexual intentions? What was stopping some pervert from dressing up as a women and sneaking into the women's restroom to spy on, assault, rape women 50 years ago? Would this law prevent them from doing it tomorrow? No, it wouldn't. Opposition to this law is about protecting the rights and safety of trans people. If I were a transwoman, I would feel so unsafe going into the men's restroom in North Carolina where homophobia and transphobia are clearly strong and socially acceptable. It's not going to be long before we hear of cases of violence and verbal abuse towards transpeople using restrooms in NC. Cold as ice cream, but still as sweet.
