StrawberryBlond 14,376
Not a flop, necessarily, but definitely an under-performance. She's had 3 successful albums in a row - it's time for a downturn. The 4th album is cursed these days. Plus, she's in her 30's now and that's a dangerous time for pop females, especially when it comes to single success. Even legends have struggled when they've hit this age, especially if they've just come off a successful run, like Katy has. Playing it safe will not pay off this time because sugary pop isn't selling anymore. Music's in a funny place right now - there's acoustic, house, RnB, dancehall, etc. all over the charts being successful right now, making it unclear what musical direction is the safest to go in. But one thing's for sure: bubblegum pop is unfashionable, especially Katy's brand of it. Roar was her last flush of success with that formula, but the failure of Birthday and This Is How We Do after that proved that her sound has officially got boring. But the problem is, when she goes in the other direction, and does vulnerable ballads, she can't be as successful. Yes, she had hits with The One That Got Away and Wide Awake, but only because they were the final singles from a highly successful album. She couldn't have lost there. But outside that album, her ballads simply don't sell. But these are the only two things she can make - uptempo, frivolous pop and vulnerable ballads. Neither is going to be fruitful for her now. So, where does she turn? The Prism era is so similar to the BTW era, it really is quite uncanny. Which makes me all the more ready to believe that her AP era is upon us. Yes, you can look at Prism and go - "But she had 2 big hits with that era and look at all the money she pulled in from touring! Of course she'll be huge next time!" Yes, but, that's exactly the same argument we used to predict that AP was going to be a success. Gaga also had 2 big hits (same order, too) and had she not cancelled the remaining tour dates due to her broken hip, she'd have pulled in just as much money as Katy did, with less dates. And BTW the album sold a lot more than Prism. And look how AP turned out. So, Katy's recent success is by no means indicative of another massive comeback. At the rate she's going, it's going to be the opposite.
Cheap thrills 1,282
Her sales will flop but somehow she will get a #1 single which results in major success without a Grammy
Bradley 58,390
Katy's lead singles are always well promoted so she will have a very big time. Also the radios love her.
littlepotter 74,712
Idk I also have this feeling that everyone's kinda tired of her. She's just too kiddie pop chaeri pls
yes and 4,884
I hope, but I don't think so. She doesn't work with Dr. Luke anymore, but at least she has Max Martin. Did you think I'd show up in a limousine? No

Gaga in 2013 is the only time I can recall where everyone was labeling someone a flop. With Adele and Taylor it was more just just your standard small-minded stuff instead of grand sweeping statements like "Gaga is Over"
