She is Asian though. Motoko Kusanagi born and raised in Japan is a white girl? I mean, if that's what you want to believe, who's stopping you? There's also the problem that Asians are only casted to play Nerdy roles. In Hollywood Asians are rarely anything else. But of course, a white person has no issue with this I'm white and I have issue with this. If All You Ever Do Is Look Down On People, You Won't Be Able To Recognize Your Own Weaknesses. SychosSoChic 9,995
Like Jesus guys it doesn't take 17 pages to get it She's Japanese - fact She lives in Japan - fact She speaks Japanese - fact Whether you think she looks white or not is irrelevant, because quite simply she's not. Spoiler And I saw someone propose that her cyborg model is just white? No. Coz why in the HELL would an Asian choose to look white? Now you're just opening up doors to a whole different can of worms. Life ain't Hollywood for any one of us.
MelbHawker 6,583
Hollywood does what it does to make a profit. It's an adaptation of anime - where films and adaptations are concerned (no matter the genre), I do not think the producer/directors etc. are obligated to stay true to the source material. These calls re: 'whitewashing' are ridiculous. Hollywood was developed by white people; is it shameful to be using white actors in films? Where's the rule stating that an adaptation of Anime can't feature a white actress simply because she is white/non-asian? Personally, I would love to see a more diverse spread of actors getting jobs in Hollywood - Hollywood is so concentrated though, that the same actors are used for projects simply because actors act as the brand/selling point for films these days. The name of the film is more often than not secondary to the actors in it. It's all about what profits.
