DWUW ft. Justin Timberlake who was BIG during that time. Bruno could have done it but I don't know if he has the maturity.

Wtf why do so many people think Aura would have been a good choice it literally sounded like an unfinished demo. Nobody took it seriously.

chaeri pls

DWUW ft. Drake and then followed up by Gypsy. Gaga would've had 2 number 1's on ha hands:giveup: But Applause was a good lead, it did what it did under such terrible circumstances.

At the end of the day, I do think Applause as lead wasn't a bad idea but idk if another song would be more successful in its position

REALITY

I honestly think that Applause was the best decision in terms of being the lead single, other than that, the only song that I thought was worthy of being a lead was DWUW.

I think Applause was the safest choice, but I think MANiCURE had the potential to do well, it's extremely catchy and there really wasn't anything like it out at the time so it would have stuck out. I don't think Sexxx Dreams could have done well, I know we have a lot of sexual songs but a song pretty much saying I had a dream that you and me had sex that also mentions masterbation is a lot different then a sexual innuendo.

DWUW or Sexxx Dreams? Idk I don't see any of them being good enough to be a single. Applause was a stretch and G.U.Y was laughable.

I guess MANiCURE. That was definitely one of her most commercial choices, very catchy, women would have loved it and I'm sure it would've been some sort of hit. But after reading this...

My pick was "Do What U Want". DWUW, for me, is not only the best song on the album, but it's one of the best Gaga songs period! I think it could have been her most successful single yet under the right platform, and was definitely a opportunity lost!

Preferably I would rather the track feature "The Weeknd", "Bruno Mars", or even "ZAYN". But considering the time frame, I think "The Weeknd" would have probably been the best choice as he was rising up around that time. (But not too big) But hey, look at how well it sold with NO VIDEO and a cultural pariah like R. KELLY?

Imagine how the song could have done with a different, less controversial R&B artist, and video that had as much time and creativity put into as Bad Romance? I get chills just thinking about that 2 years without Gaga music. then hearing that song drop one night out of the blue. "Roar" wouldn't have had a chance in hell.

That was a really good way of putting it. Personally, I would have loved The Weeknd on it, just someone who wasn't controversial (Rock Ross wasn't a good choice for the remix either ever since that UOENO song - she just has no luck with who she was featuring). I don't like Drake, but he would have caused that song to blow up being on it. A younger, less controversial, relevant RnB artist featuring, a non-controversial video to go with it and Gaga actually treating it well (instead of performing Venus everywhere) could have resulted in a different direction for the era. Would it have overthrown Roar? Debatable, but it could have given it some strong competition at #2.

It needed to be Applause. Applause is the representation of the entire album. Any other song would not make sense. The best singles on ARTPOP were pretty duh.

1. Applause
2. DWUW (feat. R. Kelly)
3. Sexxx Dreams
