Of course it's my opinion, I didn't state is as a fact :rip:

It's weird to me that people say Style was inspired by DWUW because I do like that song a lot, but IDK, I don't really hear the resemblance? It's nice that others can appreciate that song, I wanted to too but I just couldn't

I know music is subjective and people are entitled to their own opinions but seriously anyone who is sane wouldn't call Do What U Want a bad song.

Because they allowed the commercial to continue to run, where they pulled it in the US.

The commercial had definite impact. That's the reason.

DWUW was a huge smash on european radios.

I think it would have been #1 in EU and US if it had a good video and proper promotion. It could have been her clapback to the haters, if only she didn't have a meltdown.

DWUW was played so much more by European radio stations than Applause, mostly because Applause perished as Roar was dominating the charts that time. DWUW though had no big competitors and was very catchy too. The radio stations loved it so did the Europeans.

I liked you OP bc I didn't know these facts, but I love DWUW <3 If I had to take one away it would be Applause :P

From what I see they sold around the same amount in Europe and Applause was more promoted. That shows that if DWUW had gotten a video it would be even more successful and big.

DWUW is more "mainstream" than Applause.

Peaked at #3 on the Canadian hot 100 without a video

To begin with, Applause had a video which is an important factor. Also Applause had more airplay going on so it got more exposure. And those promo spots are based in UK only and that's why DWUW outsold AP there.Besides UK, both songs sold around the same amount all over Europe.

I had been thinking about that too. I'm sure she could have come up with something if she tried, even a simple video of her dancing around in no make-up would have helped.

This TBH. A short video with sexy looks and no make-up could have done wonders. In Oct 2013 Gaga had basically no competitors, besides Miley. Unconditionally never happened, Lorde was starting to be a thing and Beyonce released in December. I don't recall anything consistent. Work Bitch had a very short momentum in September. Really, it could have changed the fate of ARTPOP, considering that a video could push the song on MTV (and that a short video could have captured the increasing, at the time, streaming numbers).

DWUW could have been such a HUGE hit. Like one of her biggests hits. I will never get over it being so missmanaged
