ARTPOPisaChoice 946
Right now one of the biggest hits worldwide is I Took a Pill in Ibiza by Mike Posner. It already hit #1 in the UK, Top 5 in Australia & Canada, and is currently in the Top 10 of the US Hot 100. It's most acclaimed/known for it's personal lyrics reflecting on the emptiness of fame and the career trajectories of many one hit wonders. Now, obviously Lady Gaga is a much bigger artist, even at her very lowest point in her career she was a much larger artist that someone such as Mike Posner. But I think a lead single that reflected on fame/defeat would work very well for her. It could take a more positive tone - focusing on coming back from being written off by Hollywood. With sharp and poignant writing, it could be personal to Gaga's story but applicable to anyone at the same time. Would Gaga be able to pull off an ITAPII-type lead in her own way? Hands up to the sky 🌧 I’ll be your galaxy 🌌

Iwontell 7,312
Here for the confessional tone of the lyrics - despite how "trying hard to cool and real" they are -, but the version of the song that I listened to was very EDM, very 2012 and I don't think that's a good idea for her...and another song about "fame", about "the industry"...? It's so hard to relate to that...she has sung so much about herself as an artist, she should focus on herself as a human now...and a song about failure/defeat is interesting and all, but as a lead single...? I think a song about that subject matter should have an uplifting tone...it should say "I failed, bc I'm human, and it hurt, but good news is: I grew up"...like "Both sides now" - a song that, by the way, is a lyrical masterpiece, as far as I'm concerned... ATTENTION: (bad) jokes and sarcasm are still a thing, so don't take everything I say literally. Thank you.
Robo Ga 15,299
I like the idea but I feel like I want something from Gaga that isn't about fame, especially because Applause as lead single from ARTPOP was largely seen as self-indulgent and dare I say *redundant* just because she has already done the whole fame thing. I'm personally hoping for a love song ("Room In My Heart" has me hyped). 🤖⚡️
JustAnotherDay 8,402
I don't know, I feel like she has already played out the idea of fame, I thought you were going to say how the single was a remix of a more ballad-like song which I think would be cool for the lead. was NickARTPOP

People immediately dismiss anything fame related from Gaga though, it was a popular complaint about ARTPOP by critics, "here we go, another song where Gaga sings about fame", but personally I like the idea of a song about defeat. But if it's too "oh I was written off by Hollywood, kiss my ass" it could become too Do What U Want-esque and redundant. But I'd like it if it kind of told a story in lyrics about Gaga's treatment in LA like Marry the Night video touched upon. And how the Marry the Night video ended, after everything, Gaga came back from it, ready to go to LA and conquer music. I always hoped for a continuation to Marry the Night, showing Gaga arriving in Hollywood, etc.
weed 73,862
gaga dedicated 2 albums to fame, and I wouldn't want a sad song as her big comeback i want something happy-ish and danceable so everyone is addicted and she slays
Arizona Sky 10,913
It's a very good song but no. I want Gaga to create an uptempo record that showcases her voice with real instruments for the lead single ala Uptown Funk. It's a different side of her that the public has never seen. I enjoy hearing her songs about fame and all, but I would love something different this time around. Promise I'll always be there. Promise I'll be the cure.
