This song is not even out. How can it be a trend without any other actually successful song sounding like that? The closet is Cheap Thrills and it was offered to Rihanna before she released Work. UmbriaWitch 325
A testament to her amazing aging that she could use a pic from THIRTEEN years ago, and no one would have guessed if they weren't told. Not every popstar can do that even with pics from 5 years ago. Impressive.
George 363
You guys are so hateful with her. Like she is cheesy-nice, doesn't harm a fly, yet you diss her like crazy What did she do? did she overshadow applause too? OT: not too fond on the song preview to be honest Hello, it's me

I didn't say it was the first time ever dancehall or a Jamaican sound was ever on the radio. Boy, people here are quick to defend things like Ray Of Light as influential but will discard anyone else doing the same, just because they don't like the artist. Get over it. You will hear more and more Jamaican inspired songs like Work through out the summer by mainstream artists. It just is what it is. I also can't wait until more of her album sounds are copied so that people here can continue eating their words. People are so quick to discredit Rihanna as being influential yet here she is ten years later getting those number ones for five weeks in a row. Even Madonna only got two number ones after 1993 her tenth year in the business. Anyways who cares. Why are you so upset about my comment about Rihanna being influential. Is there only room for one or two influential women in pop music? Is there only room for one or two influential women in pop music? Good God get a grip. I never said she wasn't influential or discredited her. I'm sorry my post triggered you but I was just standing the obvious. This trend of using tropical sounds for pop songs wasn't started by Work. Cheap Thrills is a dancehall inspired song and it was created before Work was even released. Thrift Store started a trend (Dirty Talk, Problem, Wiggle, Focus), Dark Horse started a trend (Black Widow, Numb, Get On Your Knees, Kingdom Come).
