StrawberryBlond 14,112
Even someone like me, who keeps up with all artists releases and knows how they've performed in general, always seems to get it wrong when it comes to Adele's UK chart positions. I could have sworn that Chasing Pavements and Skyfall went to #1. I got a pub quiz question asking what the only Bond song to go to top ten in the US was and I said Skyfall as it was a hit everywhere and went to #1 here and it turned out, it went to #2. And weirdly, I did remember it now. It was beaten by Diamonds to #1 for just one week and it was followed by a whole batch of one-week #1's, most of which aren't important anymore. Just shows you how having a "good week" was all it took back then to get a #1. If streams had been incorporated back then, goodness knows how many weeks at the top she would've had! I think this proves that Adele will always be an albums artist. If she keeps on taking huge breaks between albums, even her lead single sales might begin to suffer as everyone knows they're just going to buy the whole experience anyway, so why bother with the singles? All her songs since 21 are widely known anyway, so her lack of single success doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things. Just wish more artists got this amazing treatment.
