I think she donated a large amount of money to GLAAD recently.

Really? Is this true?

The award she won is given out to someone "who has made a significant difference in promoting equal rights for LGBT people". I don't think she fits that criteria at all. But she pays them and suddenly she's some sort of ambassador for us? Nah. Acting like you might maybe be sort of a little bit bisexual to promote your single doesn't count, girl.

Usually I don't get like this about celebs "supporting" LGBT rights because frankly any kind of positivity and alliance is welcomed in my books, but I do feel slightly offended at her being named the "vanguard" of LGBT people, not to mention how she chose to use her time on that stage.

I just care that people are speaking out on the LGBT's community's behalf. Any positive contribution is a win. Considering how certain states are implementing (or trying to implement) laws that restrict their rights (or the rights of anyone who doesn't meet the criteria set by some narrow view of a particular religion), we need more people speaking on their behalf, or donating or volunteering or marching, etc.

Even if Demi has purely selfish reasons for doing so (I don't necessarily agree) the point is that it's being done. She is saying positive things and providing support and encouragement, in some cases donating to good causes. Sure, there are probably people out there way more worthy of this award, but that to me who wins isn't what matters the most. The actions of everyone who gives a damn (or at least pretends to) matters way more to me.

Just repeat to yourself, "It's just a show. I should really just relax."

For people who are looking for respect or acceptance, you sure are having it hard with Miss Lovato.

I stopped liking her due to her attitude long ago, but at least before Confident she still had good music. Now she has nothing. Don't know why she's getting this award :poot:

Indeed, and I agree with you and I also admire your positive attitude towards this. And I do feel the same, which is why I get angry why people say stars like Gaga "exploit" the gays or whatever, even though they have put their neck on the line to speak up when it wouldn't suit them, but that's besides the point :emma:

The point is I have never heard of Demi doing anything beneficial for the LGBT community except in this speech where she basically just delivers the cliche "be yourself, you can do it!" shtick while making a joke about Nick Jonas' penis. I'm more than willing to be proved wrong here. I do not follow Demi by any means so if she has indeed done anything of note to really try and make a difference then I'm open to being corrected. But I have Googled and I can not so far find any "contribution".

Ultimately I agree with you. Any public show of support is good. But I personally feel like GLAAD have a responsibility to award people that actually deserve it. Now Demi gets to be celebrated as some kind of gay icon just because she threw money at them, or she was just available on the night?

What is it that you're trying to say here?

Good for her. Even thought I know her popularity has decreased lately, she has young fans that look up to her so it's good she supports LGBT issues.

Hopefully she wins over the gays so they can save her from another flop single and for her upcoming tour.

You all seem to forget about her pro-LGBT music video:

Anyway, ''pulls one of Gaga's?'' what does that even mean?:rip:
