mariomania1234 11,368
The album made me a fan. It's still her best album to me. No other pop star had touched it this decade.

THIS x1000. Born This Way was the peak of Gaga's artistry. The amount of work that went into that album, vocally, lyrically and production-wise is incredible. Not to mention the beautifully dark and alien-like fashion. Fans who drag this huge, defining era of Gaga's career definitely need to revisit it and take another look, because it produced an incredible amount of pop culture to interpret and enjoy. 🤖⚡️
Bolkins 4,125
I hope at least BTW will be recognised as a cog in the machine that launched the social justice movement. OT - Its a shame that BTW was marred so much by the Express Yourself fiasco, ironically BTW was Gaga's most unique era by FARRR the music/sound, the look, the videos - all of it was lightyears ahead of anyone else and still is Not the bore worms! djBuffoon 12,115
Since the beginning, Gaga's albums in general were always accused of being derivative, for some reason. But that is one thing I don't think can honestly be said about her work. Even ARTPOP, for all the criticism it got, goes in zany directions that I can't imagine any of her peers going. The farther we get away from Born This Way, the more I can listen to it and really feel that she thought outside the box with that one. In fact, the box didn't even exist. FLP13 159
Gaga has always been ahead of her time and with this Album she definitely left an egg that is now hatching. #punintended
E24187 615
Oh plz. We DRAGGED Born This Way. Then we saw what happened with ARTPOP and everyone changed their tune. Remember how we were saying ARTPOP was going to be the redemption of the "failings" of Born This Way? Because I certainly do.
OmgSum1Actually 3,041
Well I wasn't a part of GGD then but I remember everyone liking the song and bopping to it, like it was a huge huge hit here and everyone was making egg jokes, but at the same time loving the song and I found out that it sounds similar to Express Yourself in the very end of 2012 when I became a fan - I was GP basically Shameless selfpromo

If it was declining and then increased last year, then we could speak about it being picked up from the ashes of 2011.
Yo GagaGaga 6,541
The Fame made Gaga a popstar, The Fame Monster made her the it Girl, Born This Way made her a Legend, ARTPOP made her an artist Thats how I see it

That album only made Gaga seem more flawed. I like ARTPOP as am album that doesn't take itself too seriously. As an avante gard album....I would take Born This Way ANY day, because that album is seriously a masterpiece Rock On and A Last One For the Road 🚬
Benji 20,113
Born This Way will be the album that Gaga will be remembered for. When you put The Fame, The Fame Monster and ARTPOP next to eachother, they sound pretty cohesive and something you'd expect from her... but then you get Born This Way which is this massive, theatrical piece which tells the stories in the world around her, her own story and her fan's. I'm going to be biased because Born This Way is my favourite album but I think it's hands down her best album to date.
Battle 4 Ur Life 6,698
I was one of the people who didn't think much of the song+video when they first came out but only because, just like everybody else, I was SO NOT ready for it. it was and still is ahead of its time. now I absolutely adore the song+video. Nick Knight killed it. It's SO F* DEEP! imo it's a masterpiece video. I even think it's better than Bad Romance because it's even more unconventional than BR was. PLUS: TRIANGLES, UNICORNS, BLACK LEATHER, TORN DENIM, SPIKES AND S*...It was ALL pumped back into fashion because of the BTW era. and nowadays it's still fashionable. and the song is a classic. I didn't think it sounded like EY when it came out (the truth is I was too young for Madonna back then [lol, I knew her ofc and liked some songs but still], I became a fan of hers AFTER BTW) but when I finally noticed the similarities I loved the song even more and thought Gaga was even more genious than I thought she was before) BTW IS a milestone and people who fail to see that might need a little bit more education. the song+video+era that changed it all period “Fantastic, chic, freak, slay.”
eifulien 2,954
I'm very late to the party but I wanna join the conversation. Even though I've been a fierce deffender of ARTPOP, and it is the album that made me stan for Gaga, there's an overwhelming feeling lately inside me about Born This Way. I feel like I've become more "adult" and I relate more and more to the complexities of BTW instead of the raw passion and fury that was in ARTPOP. I'm in a unique situation tbh with the album cause I totally share the GP view from 2011 until 2013. Then I revisited the album and appreciated it more, so I was in transition until 2015, but at this point I think BTW may be my favourite work from her, or at least if not a favourite, the one I can currently relate to and "feel". It's an album that's out any league, chart, competition, award show. It's a grower, a slow grower as in it took me 5 freaking years to appreaciate every single song on the album to a point at which I don't dislike any songs on it. I was 16 when it came out, now I'm 21 and I'm much more socially aware so I guess that's a key factor. The music is so unlike anything else. She did the impossible. And this is the album's strongest and weakest link. I think it's a hit or miss compilation of songs but the depths it reaches are out of reach for 99% of the current generation of artists. She managed to combine dance futuristic styles with rock structures. Many songs start with a modern techno/dance style only to break in the middle and have this retro vibe like a throwback to the 80s. So in 2011 it all used to sound horrible. It was the first full album from Gaga I got to listen and it was not the Gaga I knew from 2008-2010 with her singles. So I barely liked Bloody Mary, Judas, Born This Way (somewhat), Scheisse, FOHL and HML. But slowly it pushed my taste for music to like all the diversity. BTW is the record for which Gaga will gain recognition as she becomes a legendary artist for the history books. Just like Benji said it stands out next to TF/TFM/AP. What surprised me about the album's impact is that it was snubbed virtually everywhere in late 2014 when the music issues were compiling the mid-decade best albums for the 10s. I have no idea why, maybe it was still the bad taste from ARTPOP that influenced them to dismiss the album, but I really expect BTW to be present in every decade-end objective list for Best of 10s in 2019. Miel 15,009
For me personally, it never had to be redeemed. But, I do really love how the conversation around the album, both musically and socially, is still in motion. It's definitely been brought up a lot in my university as a conversation piece, in the context of contemporary social issues. 3 points in and ready for more
Pierre 10,480
Born This Way is THE ALBUM, and you start to love it with the time, even Bad Kids doesn't feel like a filler, to me, anymore, After all these years of music (Not only from Gaga) you can see it is a truly work of art. ❝Is not blue, not turquoise, not lapis. It's actually cerulean❞.
