StrawberryBlond 14,102
Only 10 top 10's despite a decade in the music industry. This is what I present to people when they say Taylor's so international now. And all those hits are hits for a reason, except for Love Story, which was a genuinely surprising #2. Other than that, every single one of her top 10's are generic pop songs or feature someone who's big in the UK. With no Spotify streaming, minimal promo and years of making bland country songs have really hampered her chances of making it here. I still can't quite believe she managed to properly make it here after nearly a decade of being unknown and one of the un-coolest names in music for a UK audience. Love Story was the only surprise. Everything else had a clear reason. If she ever goes back to her old style, she'll be old news here. 1 minute ago, SlaeUrAnus said: I'm surprised she has not had a #1 yet. That's what happens when you don't let Spotify stream your music. It's the ultimate deciding factor on if a song goes to #1 now. Shake It Off could have done it and Blank Space could have definitely done it because it was #1 on itunes almost all week but because it had zero streaming figures to promote, it had to settle for #4. She would have had 2 UK #1's by now (possibly 3 since Bad Blood had a lot of success too) but because of her greed, it didn't happen. And they say Taylor's an amazing businesswoman? Being "international" doesn't mean you need loads of #1s, she's had hits in our charts and people definitely know her here And yeah we aren't country people so she won't do as well here with that type of material, it is what it is Since when was Taylor Swift's name uncool? I can't remember any stigma like that being attached to her

No, you don't need lots of hits to be international but when you're a popstar, you sure do. Taylor's name was uncool until she made Red. Even then, she was still heavily stigmatised for making babyish tunes. She never won awards or had hits here because she just wasn't hip. I don't remember anyone at school knowing who she was 2006-07, when she was unknown here. I am genuinely surprised how well Fearless did considering it only had one hit and nobody talked about her, except to put her down. Speak Now pushed her even further into bland territory. To us, she was like one of those American girls you hear about that grow up in mega religious families in the South and keep themselves for marriage. That kind of role just doesn't fly in the UK. We've always liked our popstars sexual and streetwise and she was just too twee for us. There's just something about her that brings out my inner mean girl. Like she's walking past me in the corridor and I'm all: "Ugh, she's soooo dreary." I wasn't aware that someone who had such a dorky image can go on to reinvent themselves as the most popular girl in school. It's like every teen movie cliche come to life. People have short memories, I swear. The fact Shake It Off was a massive UK hit for her shows how much our musical taste has changed. That kind of stuff would be laughed off the charts back in the day when we were all about Xtina, Eminem, Britney, 50 Cent and so on.

What I tried to say, YBWM, WANGBT and BS are more UK radio friendly than Telephone (in my opinion but I don't live there so, I'm probably wrong) another shot before we kiss the other side
