do you have proof of this?

I've used a lower end professional camcorder from 2006 that had 1080p resolution, the Canon XH-A1. That used small DV tapes.

What you say makes sense I suppose

but I somehow doubt that the full quality version exists,

it was probably compressed down

Hopefully not, I really doubt that they compressed the raw footage. Large studios keep everything in archives most likely but the chances of them seeing the light of day are rare.

This photo was taken on set and shows BTW was filmed in 5K HD. We only have it in 1080p, but we know it exists in 5K.

Bad Romance was filmed only just over a year earlier. They wouldn't jump from filming in 480p to 5K in just over a year. All of her videos were filmed in HD. YouTube didn't support HD when the videos came out, so the videos weren't uploaded in HD. As soon as YouTube supported HD, new videos were uploaded in HD.

Contrary to popular belief, the video was filmed in HD. I have studied film and photography in college. Videographers and film makers use very high quality cameras that are light years ahead of what a consumer can use. They are expensive and bulky. 1080p has been around for a while in the digital sense and film has been able to be in HD quality for 60+ years. The youtube video was uploaded in 2009 when HD wasn't even available on youtube, so the video was formatted to fit the platform.

Do you remember when old videos on VHS and when movies on tv would show movies there would always be a message  that looked like this?

The Bad Romance music video was formatted to fit youtube and lowered in quality. The full quality version exists in some harddrive in the interscope offices or who ever the film company who edited it was.

What?? Damn that's amazing to know.

It's science, bitch

This is important! Even though we didn't get HD video broadcast until 10 years ago it's been used for quite a while. There was no need because we didn't have the technology with home tv sets.

Exactly! The videos would have been compressed for YouTube, but there will be master versions that are at least 1080p of every video.

It would be pretty smart of Bobby to give Vevo access to the HD videos and update the ones they currently have. If anything, it would get Gaga some extra views from people wanting to see videos like Bad Romance in HD.

Do you know that for sure? There wasn't a lot of HD in 2010.

HD has been around a long time, way before it hit the TV market or things like YouTube,
I remember promo for HD-ready TVs everywhere for the Soccer World Cup in 2006.

I'm sure most bigger budget music videos from at least 2006 to today were shot in HD and/or higher.

Nobody seems to had access to the original, and I don't think MTV and the like would bother to get a HD version from Interscope.

Actually YouTube supported uploading HD, 4K (and now 8K) and 60 FPS videos way before they were made available for viewing.

YouTube keeps the original file and makes duplicates in all resolutions and file formats that YouTube supports at the moment, and as soon as YouTube supports something new and the original source supports it, it'll be ready for it without needing to be uploaded again.

For some reason though Gaga/Interscope/Whoever compressed them down to 480p because that was the highest resolution you could watch (I think it was near the end of November 2009 when HD became an option to view on YouTube), and then those files must have sent to Vevo to upload when Vevo took over her videos.

Wow, whoever was in here acting like they understood video production was so wrong lol.

They likely shot the video in HD 1080p but only edited / did color correction / visual fx in SD (480p), since it was much cheaper and easier to do back then. They probably have the master footage in higher resolution, but they'd have to go back and re-do all of the post-production to get us a 1080p version.

Now, if it was shot in film (highly unlikely), they could re-develop the film to as high a resolution as they want (4k, for example). This is how they can take old movies and release them on Blu-ray. It's how Netflix made The X-Files and HBO made The Wire HD. They were shot on film, so they went back and re-developed the film and re-cut the entire series, re-did the visual fx, etc. etc.

Different director (Akerlund), different production company, different production workflow.
