Why isn't it a big deal that Lady Gaga turns 30?

I've been hearing old people say that "60 is the new 50", "50 is the new 40", "40 is the new 30" and "30 is the new 20" for years now. Also like others have commented Gaga has always been an old soul. Plus she looks way better now than she did eight years ago. She really is like a fine wine, just keeps getting better.

Because 30 is like the average age of a superstar.

Isn't Beyonce mid 30s

Katy Perry early 30s

Britney early 30s

Madonna early 60s

Taylor Swift late 20s

Adele late 20s even tho I thought she was like 47

I really hope it won't be a big deal. A lot of popstars start fading when they turn 30. It happened to Madonna, Mariah, Xtina, Britney...30 is apparently too old in the public's eyes for that stuff. I just have to hope that Gaga can do it in a way that can still be do-able. I mean, Madonna, Mariah, Cher, Kylie, etc. had comebacks later on in life and artists like Sia have started being successful in their 30's, so it's possible. The public is a lot more open to mature sounding pop music these days, so here's hoping. It would really prove how much of a force Gaga is in music when she can still make successful pop in her 30's.

It's because she is not what you would call a "pretty" or " beautiful" person and she doesn't use sex appeal to sell.

Well, I think she's really beautiful. I'm sure a lot more people would think so too if she appeared a bit more "normal." It's just the weird make up that puts people off. But she has definitely used sex appeal to sell before. Pokerface, Lovegame, DWUW and GUY were sexual songs (granted, there the only sexual singles she has, but still). And the videos for Pokerface, Lovegame, Paparazzi, Bad Romance, Telephone, Alejandro, Y&I and GUY were sexual. And lets not forget Cake Like Lady Gaga. I mean, there's a reason why her Lovegame video is packed full of people saying "This is back when Gaga was hot" and the Cake video is packed with "why doesn't she look this hot all the time?" comments. She's been wearing extremely provocative outfits and doing racy magazine shoots since the beginning. There's nothing wrong with using sexuality as a marketing tool but let's not pretend she's never used it to her advantage. It's clear she used it to break into the industry when she marketed herself as traditionally attractive and sexual.

Thank God Gaga never really made her music be reliant on age.

That's what I think too. There are definitely quite a few of her songs that will be difficult to sing at an older age but a lot of her songs are reasonably timeless - she can sing stuff like TEOG, Y&I, Applause, etc. forever. I always think that, despite their huge amount of success as youthful artists, how are the likes of Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, etc. going to sing their hits live when they're in their 40's and beyond? Even Britney's starting to seem too old to sing her old classics and she's only 34. It doesn't help that her songs includes lyrics like "I know I may be young" and "I'm not that innocent." Doesn't work when you're a 34 year old divorcee with 2 kids who has had their fair share of men. Some songs are even dependent on the artist actually being young when they sing them (Papa Don't Preach, 22, Slave 4 U...) Any song that sings about having a disapproving parent or being a certain age or losing your innocence is going to make it very difficult to sing when you become even a little bit older. Though it is kinda weird how Madonna took on the role of a pregnant teenager when she was 28 and looked older than what she was.

Actually, Madonna's peak was when she had 31-33. She was born in 1958, and LAP & Express Yourself were released in 1989. Vogue and Justify My Love; during 1990. Blond Ambition Tour, in 1991. She started fading in 1992, but because of the whole Erotica controversy, not because of her age, in my opinion.

Ok, yes, technically, she was in her 30's then. I was thinking more in the sense that a lot of women start fading a decade after their debut, if not before, and Madonna did that with Erotica. Indeed, it was likely the Erotica controversy that caused her to fade but that's not to say her age wasn't a factor too (especially because she always made herself look older). Its always been a factor for females.

Yo GagaGaga

Lady Gaga didn't build her career off of sex appeal, back when I was apart of the GP I didn't even know what her face looked like because people were so focused on her music and fashion

Regiment

Most of the popstars started as pop princesses and teen fodder while Gaga had a mature outlook and sound from the get go. We never saw Gaga as this youngster that's one of us and it's growing up alongside us. I for one thought she was in her thirties at first.

Most pop stars start to do poorly after 30-34 in part cuz their looks start to go

But the GP never considered Gaga good looking her success always came from other stuff

maybe were just not as concerned that her career will be affected by age just yet

I agree :unicorn: some artist have relied on their youthful features for appeal, and so when they get older, that appeal leaves. Gaga has a quality that doesn't age-- talent! :rockstar:

You don't deserve a point of view if the only thing you see is you.

Even if she wasnt talanted...

Cuz the GP innitially didnt go "omg what a talant". The GP originally liked her cuz she was interesting, her dresses were cool (until she went extreme and GP didnt like it), and they thought she was unique

Either way nobody in the GP ever thought she was hot so that was never a factor

Madonna had hits up until the 2000s when she was in her 40s which is rare in pop music...

Madonna got attention and created controversy. She too got attention that was besides her looks and it helps a lot

Schwerk

Because it's just a number. And because she's more than just a pop star age is less relevant. Also society changed and seems to be less ageist. These days 40 seems a lot less old than it did 20 years ago.

According to Gaga I'm a ****ing rad bitch

I dunno about that

with the exeption of Jennifer Lopez i dont hear any other ppl in their 40s making hits

Eminem had a few in late 30s but his genre age isnt as important as in pop
