She played it early on during the BTWB in 2012, and she'd confirmed in October 2011 she'd been writing for her next album. In December 2011 she confirmed there was a song on the new album that would feature Elton John. 'Death and decay of an icon' was definitely a theme she was exploring, but never ended up on the ARTPOP record. Princess Die and a song with Elton most certainly would not fit on ARTPOP, so that's the biggest hint that the direction of the album was changed. Gaga could have just changed her mind, but we don't know. What we do know is that Gaga struggled with single choices and creative decisions with ARTPOP because Interscope wanted control over it (e.g. Gaga wanted Gyspy or Sexxx Dreams as the first single, and also the huge DWUW mess when Gaga wanted Venus), so it's a possibility. Gaga has made numerous subtle jabs towards that since. One thing Gaga confirmed is that she rewrote 'I Wanna Be With U' to 'Dope' out of protest of the label wanting her to write and sing stuff she didn't want to. I can't recall the exact interview she said this in, but I think it was Howard Stern? Whatever it was, it wasn't because of Troy. Their split happened either the day of or the day before the album leaked, so that is not true at all. Gaga had Burqa, and the label wouldn't even let her release it as the lead single or with the at the time current title/concept, forcing her to drop the most radio friendly song she recorded, remember I'm pretty sure Troy and Gaga split on the day of the leak exactly, but I'm not really sure. KURUSHITOVSKA 20,451
Gaga's team leaked Brooklyn Nights even with the stems, it wasn't stolen. They wanted the album to have more radio friendly songs, so she changed I Wanna Be With You to Dope so they can't play it. Interscope had a lot to do on the album, they changed the original tracklist a lot. ARTPOP was supposed to be released on Spring 2013 but her hip injury happened, Troy left her and they had to re-do everything again because Troy is the one that was supposed to fight for X songs to be on the album. Gaga was upset that they didn't let her have artistic freedom, that's why she put ARTPOP, Venus and MANiCURE on the GUY video, they didn't want to pay to release more singles so she just put them out some way. I remember like a week before they announced the tracklist with those monsters and the paibted wall, they were still deciding wich song would be where MJH is today so clearly there were so many songs rejected, if it was for Gaga I'm sure she would have out Brooklyn Nights and IWBWY on the album. Also Interscope wanted promo for Zedd and Madeon so their songs had to be on the album. Just my thoughts btw. ¿Qué currículum tiene ésta tarántula? Blueskye 1,087
I'm not sure about the change from AP 1.0 to 2.0. But there was definitely something up around September 2013 when she kept saying the album was done and being handed into the label, then suddenly it was being worked on more, under the guise of "I just can't stop working on it till they prize it out of my hands." She went back and forth on it being done and not done multiple times.

I completely agree when September 2013 started I noticed stuff stated to slow down and Gaga was tweeting a lot about the album but we were not seeing or hearing much else then I remember her writing an open letter to the fans about management issues. I remember right away knwing something was not right because Gaga wouldn't just get lazy about her career all of a sudden. There were powerful forces trying to control her. TimisaMonster 31,073
According to fans backstage at artRAVE, Gaga leaked Aura because Interscope didn't want to make it the first single and technically it wasn't the demo...it was the final version. That's why when the album version came out it was terribly obvious Gaga wouldn't go from those EPIC demo vocals to drunk lazy Rihanna vocals unless Interscope forced her to Plus Gaga was constantly tweeting and Instagramming that she was "turning in ARTPOP" because she kept having to go back and change more every time, becasue of Interscope... Why did Gaga have such a difficult time explaining ARTPOP in interviews? I personally feel Gaga couldn't recognize her original vision and just simply said "it means anything" "it's possibilities" SUPER GENERAL statements compared to how Gaga explained the concepts of her previous albums in such depth and understanding Need I say more? It would be naive to think the ARTPOP we got was her original vision... Stream my new single, 💜"Heartbeat"💜, on Spotify!

Stephen 30,415
It's clear there was some sort of last ditch effort to make the album more accessible. The Aura vocals being changed, Sexxx Dreams was quickened, MANiCURE and ARTPOP ended up sounded incredibly hollow compared to the iTunes festival versions. When Swine leaked just before the album did, it was longer than the album version - clearly they cut it down to make it more digestible. Gaga has basically never spoken about will.i.am. or David Guetta being on Fashion! because she was probably forced into doing a track with them. She tried to counter some of this by changing IWBWY into Dope. But it was really too late. Before the album dropped she was hyping Brooklyn Nights and Temple, she clearly wanted something else for this album. I personally don't think it was her label tho, it was probably Troy pressuring her and honestly she was probably pressuring herself. We know she was feeling really insecure at that time.
